Yes you can get to 330i performance. You can come close to 335i performance, but it will be expensive.
Headers and exhaust $2000 Three stage intake manifold $1000 ECU tune $500 Supercharger from ARMA $8000 These should bring you to over 300hp but at the cost, you could have bought a 335i and upgraded. |

2007 e92 328i: ETG/3SAutosport tune + eurobox/k&n filter/scoops + BMW PE + BMW SSK + 19' wheels
Raced my friends tuned Acura Integra TypeR and beat him by half a car length with a so-so launch. He ran 13.9sec 1/4 mile last summer...stock 335i is about 13.5 sec? I dont have 3stage intake manifold and also have a more restrictive exhaust manifold being a 2007. As far being faster than 335i, that Im unsure. Last edited by engotski; 10-28-2011 at 10:29 PM.. |

yeah. I think I will just decide what I am going to do when my lease is up.
Is the 335 that much different from the 328 performance-wise? what about 335 vs M3 performance-wise? Because to me, if you are going to spend the money to get a 335, you might as well get a M3. |

Ok I will be that guy... LOL
a stock 335i e90 weighs in at 3640lbs - 300hp - 12.33lbs per hp to move a stock e90 328i tips in at 3360lbs - 230hp - 14.6lbs per hp to move a modded 328i, with a weight of 2850lbs - 12.39lbs per hp < Weight loss only, stock 230hp still. So yes it is possible through weight reduction alone to get stock 335 power. the HP is not the same, but power to weight is. In my personal 328, i have 212whp on a dynomax dyno (reads low) - and is an Auto. factor in the 19% drivetrain loss = 252.28hp on motor. Which puts me at 13.32lbs per hp to move. (using stock weight as a guide) I have also lighter wheels and tires, carbon fiber trunk, lighter exhaust system.. so im already not too far off a stock 335 in the grand scheme of things. You can get a 328 to have the same or better Power/weight AS A 335 STOCK, and a 330e90 is even easier. (im going to go hide in my N52 cave now, with a flame suit on and a pepsi) Last edited by Gavin@MMW; 10-29-2011 at 12:56 PM.. |

it would cost a lot to make a 328 have the same Power to weight as a stock 335. a 330 however - is the NA golden goose |

supercharger would do very nicely... approximately the same price difference from a 325i to a 335i would be about $7k (depending on mileage and condition)... you can get a nice supercharger for the N52 for $7500 with 50% increase in power w/ intercooler... for 325i, that's a whopping 110hp... putting it at 325hp... slightly more than stock 335.... if you start adding major mods like Cylinder bore (to 3.2ltr - 3.4ltr), ceramic coating, Methanol kit, oil cooler, and much more, you're looking at M3 power before long.
The problem with this is, you're likely taking away from the notorious reliability of the NA engine. Reviews from testers also note that the transmission can't take that much horsepower (usually melt or lock up at ~290hp). As for myself, i have a separate bank account set up for such modding (within 2+ years of course) and a 7spd DCT is in the works as well. Maybe in this amount of time, they will come up with a twin supercharger for our NA engines... who knows? |

another update...
decided on a used 2011 E93 M3 when my lease is up (assuming the new gen BMW does not have a V8 and I do not like the design) I already know the owner of the person leasing it, so I will be sure to get off him. |
