New info from Edmudns "Inside Line"... says the Camaro won't be out til' '10, but I doubt that as GM has the flex to churn a car out a lot quicker than that, especially given that the platforms and underpinnings are all GO.

L Insider: More Details on 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Date posted: 02-15-2006

DETROIT — Good news for bow-tie fans: The Chevrolet Camaro concept recently unveiled at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show is "extremely close" to the proposed production version that is close to winning the green light from GM brass.

The bad news: The program won't see the light of day until model-year 2010, according to informed sources in the supplier community.

GM designers and engineers continue to finesse details on the future Camaro and companion models, including a proposed rear-drive replacement for the Chevy Impala sedan, said to be inspired by the classic 1965-'67 Impala series.

Suppliers expect the corporate 3.9-liter V6 to be the base engine in both the 2010 Camaro and Impala, as well as proposed rear-drive sedans for Buick and Pontiac that are tentatively slated for model-year 2011. An optional 5.3-liter V8 would be offered in all models, and a six-speed automatic would be the standard transmission across the board, according to vendors who are familiar with the program.

The '10 Camaro also will likely offer the big-bore 6.0-liter small-block V8 as its top power plant, with the 7.0-liter engine apparently being reserved exclusively for the Corvette.

What this means to you: Will the red-hot Camaro concept still look as cool in another three-plus years as it does today? That's the risk GM is betting on.

I'd say tops for a Camaro SS in HP would be around 450, and that's w/out the carbon fiber body panels you'll find on the Z06.

I agree. I think it is possible a Camaro SS could have this kind of power given that the Shelby Cobra has 475. The base Vette will have to be up to 500hp before that will happen, though.

No, not if the SS is a specially produced car, meaning it's produced in limited numbers. Besides that there will be a ton of aftermarket mods available. I personally would bolt on some Lingenfelter turbo's.. we'll see....

Do not say anything bad about the NSX. Ayrton Senna will kill you while you sleep...through your dreams.

you sure about that? I thought the independant rear suspension of the GTO was a big factor in it being too much $$$$$ and not selling well

He said all "GO", not "GTO".

I would jump from a BMW to a Corvette (Chevy) in a heartbeat. I would love one of the new Z06 Vettes. They are faster than hell, and they cost a good bit less than $100k. You can find them on eBay for around $75k or so.

Hottest GM car? The Challenger is a Chrysler product, not GM.

I just hope GM keeps us informed consistently as production increases, just as it was done with the new corvette.
