Damage to loaner

Drive off the lot with a loaner while getting my car services for the day. and literally five minutes later, a rock (or something) kicks up and puts a small, but deep dent in the door. I return the car, and a few days after returning the car get an estimate from the BMW body shop that I owe $1000 for damages. What? BMW provides no coverage

Is there no insurance given by my credit card?

Wondering if anyone has had to deal with this.

Frustrated....

As I understand, your own insurance and/or credit card should cover it...so you have to make a claim with them. Dealers normally do NOT offer insurance for their loaners.

Your personal insurance covers it. I'm surprised the dealership didn't check it when they loaned you the car.

That's a good point. Mine always asks for proof of insurance. Though this could easily differ from location to location I suppose.

To the OP: Sorry to hear about this.

credit card should cover it, assuming you paid a fee for the loaner car (rental coverage kicks in).

I always ask about damage coverage to my loaner car before grabbing the keys and that's the reason why i get an optional insurance from the dealership rental service (costs me $20 per day) when taking a loaner car..."just in case" something like this happens.

Thats the thing, it was a loaner so I paid $0.
CC company can't do anything because there was no charge for rental. Yet BMW did take down my CC number?
However I did pay $1300 in new tires for which the loaner could be considered part of?

I guess I have to do this through my own insurance co? Why doesn't BMW dealer have insurance?

Frustrating... Need more info from the dealer on Monday...

My mother had her x5 in for service and they gave her a 328 coupe. She got rear ended at a stop light. Filed the police report took the car back to the dealer they quickly gave her another loaner.. heres a pic. it looked worse in person..

Seriously because that looks pretty bad there. I can't imagine it being too much worse.

That sucks; especially since there was nothing you could do to stop it. Hope you get it worked out.

What I don't get is I usually see people hauling ass around in their loaner cars like assholes around here I just don't get it; around here loaner cars usually have big black letters on the bumper "Courtesy car from xxxxx dealer" so you know. I always drive any loaner like a grandma. Just not worth the hassle with insurance and dealership and stuff if you fuck the car up.

That sucks too. I bet when someone rear ends a luxury car what is going through their mind is "fuck....this is gonna be expensive."

Just because they send you a bill does not mean that you owe them anything. Since I would consider a 1000 bill for a ding an attempt to rape me, I would fight fire with fire: (1) Deny that you caused the damage and make them prove it and (2) Find out THEIR cost to actually repair the ding. Assuming they can PROVE you were responsible, make them also prove the extent of the damages. Now given that nobody checked the car when you returned it, in your presence, how do they prove YOU caused the damage unless you admit the same? $1000 bill for a ding? Screw um.

And yes, you can be sure they have insurance for this. If they turn it in to their insurance AND charge you, they recover twice.
