Dealer driving your car during service

Hey guys,

Just got my car back from replacing the roof seals on my e93. The odometer in VS odometer out is 5 miles based on the record they provided me. Is this common to drive 5 miles after this type of service?

I'm being overprotective but I don't want any technician to redline my car for 5 miles on a pothole ridden streets of northern NJ.

Sounds fairly normal, probably wanted to get up to freeway speeds to test the seals.

Maybe for your case it's normal, but worse things have happened. Click my sig for an example :-)

Totaled?!!!! Sheeet.

One dealer bent my rim on the e93 during the same "test drive" and another dealer dented my rim on my e90 while installing tires in a 2-week period.

Yeah, they all like to take customer's cars out for a joy ride so they can redline them for 5 miles. Get's them repeat customers and more costly repair jobs.

Fairly normal.

See comment about highway speeds... I actually appreciate it myself. Although, I use New Country BMW in Hartford, and I've never found myself anything but pleased with them.

It takes half an hour to go 5 mi in jersey. They would fix the bent but they won't claim responsibility. They said the dent couldn't have came from their lot.

Maybe they were also checking fluids?
Takes a while for the car to warm up and the oil read out to show something.

Every time Ive gone to the dealer they have done a full checkout of the car. One time I took it for a seal (trunk) and when they returned the car they had done a brake fluid change.

The good thing is that roads near my dealer are perfect

What dealer? Bloomfield never drove mine, HOWEVER after I asked them NOT to wash it they drove it to get washed AND scuffed a bit of my freshly painted bumper. They just suck.

... oh and gave me a door ding.

It's like dealing with kids. You have to watch their every move.

time to change dealers.

My dealer dinged my car while fixing the weatherstrip on the trunk. They repaired it and repaired another ding I had caused by someone at the mall.

I gave them a chance to wash the car and it looked like they used a wet shammy to clean it. Now I just tell them not to wash it.

i got my car back once after a week and the mileage difference was like 700

they said that the key had not been updated in two weeks and then gave me the actual mileage in and out... i thought, well if that's the case why not write that in the first place.. and there's no way i drove 700 miles in two weeks. of course i didn't look at the odometer before i brought it in, so there's no way to prove they drove it.

but i was pissed nonetheless

Bridgewater BMW in NJ:
Trip 1) Had my e93 in for convertible seal replacement.
Trip 2) Had to come back to get another convertible seal replacement because the roof still leaked. They made a gash (about 3 inches long) into leather piece next to the seat. Made a dent and had a long (6 inch) road rash on one rim.
Trip 3) They repaced the piece they left a gash in. They repaired the rim and said they were just being nice and wasn't their fault.

Oh, and they always put that tacky BRIDGEWATER BMW rear license plate holder everytime. I have a collection of them. I finally told them to not put it on during my last trip.

Probably just took it to lunch. Trust me, i work for a dealership. I hear technicians everyday say "hey wanna go to lunch?".... "ya, got a car to drive?". And that is everyday, it doesnt matter if the car is dropped off for an oil change or a longblock. Their logic is based off of "what the customer doesnt know doesnt hurt them". Oh and its not just lunch either, its for naps and random errands as well lol

I've had it go both ways. last service was the battery, ODO didn't change. I've had nearly 300 miles. And I've had 5-6.

Imho the 5-6 is worrisome, they probably beat the **** out of it going to lunch etc. Like I've said before I cannot stand techs using customers' cars for errands.

F*** I saw this every day in Arlington, VA. It's astounding nobody calls Fox News who seem to love this stuff.

They did drive it 700 miles. It doesn't happen every day, but sometimes when a car is in for an extended period, it becomes the demo of the week. I honestly think it's s*****, but we BMW owners tend to be captive audiences and lap dogs. The HPFP stuff is all done, but you shoulda seen how many people were just sheep about the issue. No backbone.
