Had my first race this year at my local track!! Willow springs raceway!
Finished 2nd out of 9. Im pretty stoked although I was 3/10 a sec behind first I think i did ok for not driving in 4 months!! I ran Tag light with my rotax engine and yes the rotax's were out front and the leopards were in the back! lololol..

Nice. Can you tell me how hard it is to get involved in Kart racing? I keep buying cars like my old Evo to run Time Attacks but I was thinking it might be more cost effective to get into Kart racing.

Basically you just got to buy a Kart,, they run from 3500 used to 6k new!
u need to learn how a chassis works and the adjustments for thats what helps u win races. like anything practice makes perfect..I try to practice twice a month basically racing against my lap times and trying to stay consistent with them!
Your only costs are your entry fee, ususally 60$, Gas-25$, tires-175$ so its really not that expensive to race once you got the kart!
I have 2 karts I might be selling one really soon if your serius hit me up I could work out something for you..

I was doing some reading on:

http://rmaxchallenge.com/page.cfm?content=9

and I saw that the cost seems to be fairly inexpensive ...

How many races are there per year regionally?

basically there is a couple differnt clubs you could run with!! Theres usually a race every month!!! Every months race is put into a point program so after the end of the year whoever has the most points wins for that class!!
You dont necessarly have to run the rotax champ program you can race with a local club or a traveling club!! Seeing that your in vegas too you are local to the vegas kart club!! Id start out there If i was you they have a race on Sunday the 30th you could just go out and check out and see whats up!!

heres a link to there club: http://www.lvkc.com/
