LOL.. That's pretty cool though. I've been in so many close situations where I needed this!

Actually, this one is one of two Volvo systems available.
The one that kicked in is called City Safety and is standard on all new vehicles.
It's based on an infrared LIDAR and manages to prevent crashes up to 15kph (or reduce the crash speed by 15kph)

The other one is called "Pedestrian Detection with Collision Warning and Full Auto brake".
It's based on a normal RADAR coupled with a camera and is able to detect cars and pedestrian. The one on mine should avoid a collision up to 30kph but the newer ones (2014+) avoids a collision up to 50kph.

I'm actually pretty curious to see how the tech in the BMW fares in comparison to the one in the Volvo...

Why the same features are not used for the other functions like ACC?

ACC is a great feature, especially when you have to drive after a car in front of you at a moderate speed.

When you approach a roundabout, the car breaks, following the car in front of you, but when the other car enters the roundabout is not visible anymore by the radar and therefore it starts accelerating stupidly.

I believe there is a lot BMW could do to improve these systems.
If you are relying on the ACC to brake the car into a roundabout and then accelerate it out at the exit rather than you taking control, you are an accident waiting to happen. That's not what it's supposed to be used for. I suggest you use a taxi instead so you don't have worry about steering either.

Yeah, ACC is not a self driving car. It's designed to be used on highways to relieve you of the boredom/monotony of maintaining speed and following distance so you can look at "the big picture" and threats that the car is unable to foresee.

It's a great misunderstanding of the feature to assume that it can be safely used in city traffic or other complicated driving scenarios.

ACC has already come a long way from its first implementations back in the early 2000's.
