Damn that sucks. I would be beyond mad. Every time I go out depending on where we are going, I drive the wife's car. I would not know what to do with myself if I was you.

To be fair your average customer wouldn't notice, I would and perhaps the OP is discerning about how his car will look. So I would replace. |

You honestly don't want that on your insurance anyhow. It will go down as an accident and I think when someone runs a carfax it will show up...no one will want to buy your car....replace the bumper and pay out of pocket.

Hey buddy! So you think it would be better to replace the bumper? IS there any alternate route? Also, I don't wanna go through insurance because, yes it will go on my record and every other auto record.. This blows!! |

Wow - that sucks, but in the grand scheme of things, this is NOT an expensive fix. I know because I had to do the exact same fix on a previous M. On mine, it was just paint work, but they also quoted me for a replacement. I don't remember the exact figure for replacement, but it was something like 1100 I think. When they were done, it was 100% unnoticeable.
Take it to a shop that does BMWs - check with your dealer and find out who does their body work and take it to them... don't skimp on this. Don't claim on your insurance... you'll end up paying $15k for it due to increased premiums :/ I'm exaggerating, but still. Good luck - its a huge bummer, but its confined to the plastic bumper cover - it could be A LOT worse. |

Sorry for your pain. This really sucks!
I'm not an expert but from the shape of the damage, it would take a real narrow object to cause that dimbo in your rear bumper from top to bottom. In fact it looks like the car backed into something low like a fire hydrant trying to get out of a parking space assuming the car was parked on the left side of the street. If another car hit this area it would have damaged your rear light lens housing too. This may be the act of DUI, at least that's what the insurance company is going to say after you tell them that you had dinner at a restaurant. Been there. Don't file a claim, you'll regret it. Just saying. Last edited by i001947; 06-24-2014 at 07:43 AM.. |

I know how you feel about people not leaving notes, but I don't see any devastation here, just a drunk dent. New bumper cover, paint and it never happened.

That's guaranteed to be a perfect result provided a decent place does the prep and paint. |

A little overreacting no? How many people would walk away from a car due to the bumper being replaced??? Silly. |

Why would this increase your premiums? This is a not-at-fault accident. I ran into a truck tire on the highway, minor cosmetic damage but I made them buy me a new Euro bumper and Mode Carbon lip. $2500 bill just for parts and paint, not at fault accident, same premiums two years later.

I had the same exact thing happen to me with my car. I came out of the barber shop with my kids and someone crunched in my bumper. I went through no fault, paid the deductible and got a new OEM bumper. My insurance did not go up. It is what it is..I know some hate that saying, but I had no choice. No cameras, no witnesses, no one seemed to have saw shit, and I was only inside the shop for maybe 20 minutes. Oh and I parked at the end, I did not "hog".

I understand the pain having been rear-ended recently. At least I had the other driver's insurance to cover everything but at the end of the day it's a plastic bumper cover. Awful to see but ultimately an easy, minor repair. Find a good body shop and the car will be as good as new in no time!!

Well I don't wanna go through insurance because when i had my audi, I got into a few accidents, one wasn't my fault and the other one was, so my insurance dropped me, simple as that. I got new insurance now, but I don't want to start up a stir with these people because they will think I'm just careless with my car, when in realty I'm not, its just the wrong place at the wrong time..
With that said, I have to pay out of pocket for this repair, and I don't know how much it will cost me because my tail light is cracked if you can see from the picture, I can leave that alone but then I have to deal with a potentially damaged rear parking sensor.. So for a bumper, and paint at least, it could cost me a lot of money I didn't have to spend in the first place.. |
