Talking BMW E60 M5 vs. Imperial Japanese Mitsubishi A6M "Zero"

Crazy comparison?? Not really....

BMW E60 M5
  • Power - 500 hp
  • Weight - 4034 pounds
  • Top Speed - 206 mph
  • Fuel Economy (observed) - 13.9 mpg
Mitsubishi A6M Zero
  • Power - 940 hp
  • Weight - 3704 pounds
  • Top Speed - 331.5 mph
  • Fuel Economy (based on internal fuel capacity of 144 US Gallons and range of 1625 miles) - 11.3 mpg
The Zero KILLS the M5 after considering it nearly has 2X the horsepower of the M5 and is over 130 mph faster.....

Dang....the Zero also has cannons!

I was watching "Tora Tora Tora" and did some research on the Zero fighter.....

Don't you get how bad the fuel economy is with our cars?

The Zero weighs as much as an M5, double the horsepower and 5-6X our range and it has awesome cannons!

Think about it...a WW2 radial engine versus the Engine of the Year for 2005-2007......

But the M5 does have better armor

Sorry if this thread was lame but I found it funny.

The Fockewolfe was my favorite Axis plane.....

The Americans had the best prop planes though with the P51 and the F4U Corsair.

On the 262....Too bad Hitler tried to make it into a bomber instead of focusing on making it a true air superiority fighter.

On the Stuka... Amazing how scary pieces of cardboard can be

The Me 262 was a jet fighter so technically the P-51 still was the best prop plane of the war, the F4U being a close second.

The FW 190 always was overshadowed by its older sibling the Bf 109. The Bf 109 was already famous when WWII broke out but it was a design that had reached its limit by 1940 with the Bf 109E version. The later F, G, and H variants were meant to improve the "Emil" variant but there was no major leapfrog in performance.

The FW 190 was already from the start a better airframe than the "Emil" variant of the Bf 109 but was always overshadowed by the reputation of the Bf 109 who was still a formidable piece of machinery albeit an aging one with little left for improvement.

If the germans had chosen to mass-produce their best designs like the americans did with the P-51 and P-47 it could have been a different ball game over the skies of Europe. Thankfully they did not.

Cheers.

Who knows what that madman thought..... But I think you are right, any weapons program that was offensive got funding.

The Me262 was seriously messed around with by Hitler before it was finally operational as a fighter.

The Stuka uses but an air siren and cardboard sirens on the bombs to create the terror.

The Fockewolfe was one of the first planes to have that open type of canopy (versus the BF109).

As outdated as the BF109 was, in Erich Hartmann's hands, he became the world's top fighter ace. 352 kills;
