Did anyone say boost?
My new box of tricks arrived yesterday and after a bit of careful assembly the gauge is now up and running. Guess someone has to be the first to install one of these in a RHD car, so I took my time and made sure I didn't break anything.
The install went quite smooth and the only outstanding issue is to re-run the boost line when I get a longer PU tube tomorrow. The length needed for a RHD car is a bit longer than for a LHD car, so I had to take a bit more direct route to make it reach. However the route along the strut brace is a bit too exposed to the engine heat for my liking and I'll re-run the boost line along the air filter tomorrow. I have made Rick aware of this and he will ship longer boost lines with all new RHD gauges. When I ordered the gauge there weren't many details about the RHD version but I was told it would pretty much be a mirror of the LHD version. However no details about how the bar graph for the vacuum and boost pressure would flow. But I'm quite pleased to find that both works from left to right. - Vacuum bar graph reduces from left to right - Boost pressure bar graph increases from left to right The boost gauge looks quite subtle, and fits nicely with the dash. |

Lovely! Did ask Rick about the RHD version a long time ago, glad he got around to doing it. Just wish he'd used better quality LED's with higher resolution

All done running the new PU tubing along the air filter and around the passenger side strut tower. This is a much better route and avoids the risk of melting the tubing over the engine/strut brace.
Using this route requires at least 3.2m of Polyurethane Tubing (OD 4mm/ID 2.5mm or imperial OD 5/32" / ID 0.094") |

It will never be K.I.T.T. as the voice control never understands me and I just end up swearing at the car . Also I can bloody never remember the correct key words, so it's much quicker to just grab the i-Drive and do it yourself. The gauge is not too intrusive and all the flashy bits can be turned down or off if you don't like them. It's quite nice to be able to see the boost pressure and see how this changes under different conditions. |
