Likely never. I use motorcycles for that, not my daily driver (..sole vehicle). I have tracked my ///M cars in the past though. Too many close calls to treat my daily that way.

Married with two kids and a wife who works full time - my kids are in travel sports year round and my inlaws live out of town - so will be lucky to track my car at all...

It's going to be my daily driver and family car for the next five-plus years so I don't particularly want to risk any mishaps or accrue additional wear from tracking it. Figure in lack of time and it is unlikely I'll take it on the track.

Not dead set against it though so we'll see.

Yup.....all that oil sands tax revenue goes to pay for your tracks.....

I am too lazy to drive 3 hours. If I were willing to go 5-6 I could find a number of options within range (ok 3 or 4) but.....laaaazy.

Anyway, tres jealous.

Do you think Castrol Raceway is worth the trek? I've been reading up on it.

http://www.castrolraceway.com/index.php

All I have handy is a rustic 1/4 mile track and I've been thinking a lot lately about the futility of owning a "track" car that never sees a track. To make matters worse, my little city is becoming increasingly congested and now they're planning to stick photo radar everywhere.

I've never been on a road course with more than a go-cart, but so much about this car is urging me to consider things that are, you know, Once in a Lifetime.

I hear it it is pretty good, but I haven't been.

Race City here was good in the day I hear (I didn't own anything worthy if the track before it shut down)

(I am now concluding you are a native stubble jumper, yes? From the Paris of the prairies or the crime ridden hell-hole of a capital? Wait. 'GSA' in your profile. makes all clear (I originally assumed 'Sudbury'. Don't ask me why...even though I gather you bleed green.....this of course begs the inevitable 'where did you of to high school?' Question we must ask each other....)

No kidding! And that's 40% only if you count 3-5 times a year category into "frequent." All the talks about weight, lap times, turbo lag etc. and 85% of the owners won't even be at the track long enough to really sample the new car. So, we really should not be criticizing BMW about "M" not meaning motorsport any more, their customer base don't seem to care much.

I am really surprised with this poll's results.

So true. I hope to get more than 3-5 this year. We'll see. My goal is to find a nice E36 to buy that I can REALLY beat on and track my F82 less frequently. Tracking my E46 and E92 dailies was not very convenient.

This is great. I will represent the 60% of you "too busy" to track your M4!

Well, to our defense, I give you my excuse.

I seriously have no time to go for any track event, but I'm going insane without speed and control in my life again. I have a not so nice tendency to go for evening runs every night, and yes, Ring lap times give me something to compare this to others that could be bought straight away. It's also a good measure of handling in a way, and because my milk runs are a bit on the faster side, without testing I'm stuck buying a car which can give me the option of staying alive and sane while living here.

Yes, it's sad that this car will hardly see real tracks, but if it gives you pessimists out there comfort, I swear, the car will have a short and fulfilling life.

I just really want to say in the end, that I never speed, at all. Just that you all know that now. Never.

I've read enough of your lively posts looking at the lighter side of things to say that you, or anyone, don't need any defense on how you will use the car, and who am I to criticize. However, I do hope more than 40% of people would enjoy the car a little closer to its limits after all the endless bitching about ///M brand; it is just a car after all, not some irreplaceable jewelry or painting

To be fair, the number is not 40% it's 70%. I'm part of the 1-2 times per year crew despite having always been a regular in previous years. With travel I just don't have the time or energy to go every couple of months nowadays.

In my best year (2012) I was out 13 days. A normal year is 8 to 10 days. That's about what the budget for tires, pads, fluid, etc can handle
