Lightbulb Boost gauge in tweeter triangle

So, I'm quite annoyed by the lack of having a boost gauge but I am quite handy with fiberglass and epoxy.

Any of you ever made a custom piece to mount the boost gauge (thinking of the ECS 45mm kit) in the window triangle?

I have the standard audio package so no triangle tweeters and that seems to me like the perfect place, angled towards the driver and the ECS gauge looks small enough.

If nobody has made that yet I will go ahead and make it myself.

Thoughts?

Nah thanks but where is the fun in that?

Btw, I think it's nicer to have an analog gauge for that.

From what I saw of it it's a big hairy pain in the arse to install anyway.

Well, I have been surfing around and from the looks of it, I will get a PLX Sensor, which makes it nice and simple under the hood and doesn't require running a vacuum line through the car into the gauge.

http://www.plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=SEMOSMVB

Just need to find the right Gauge to go with it and that fits the interior.

long story but I still had my 135 P3cars boost gauge so I took it apart and made a custom housing to fit into the ashtray. I only use it for boost since that is the version I bought (by mistake - newb move on my part). The housing is completed but I have not installed yet due to the cold weather.

I say go for it, might be kind of cool to see in the tweeter.

I meant my P3 gauge. I was shocked at how much was going into it before it left the dealer. I'm sure yours will be a cake walk. I hope to god they didn't have to splice into any wires or vacuum tubes etc....

If I hate it, would you make me a boost gauge?
Thanks man, I will - just a bit nervous what the hell they will do to put it in...

Thanks man. Lots of options there. VEI Systems has a low depth version with an electronic sensor too, cheaper too than PLX but only bargraph/numbers. Not analogue. I will create a nice thread once I get all the stuff together and build the housing.

Awesome ! We all look forward to it and maybe I'll follow or buy one off you I was trying to find a location that would not de-value or de-face my car if I sell it. So, the ashtray was the best solution for me w/ the existing gauge.

Still need to find a place to get the actual boost value. N55 means tapping into the intake manifold right?

That is what I read, mind you I know nothing of these sorts of things. I believe much of the info can be obtained via the OBD port for the N55, more so than the N54, along with the single diverter valve.

True, but if you run a piggyback like JB4 the ECU thinks you run 8psi while actually you do 14 or whatever.
Time for research.

Anyone who has solid info on getting actual boost values on the N55?

For n55 boost, the P3 gauge has a mode called "A.n55" which lets you use the blue wire (one of the 2 extra analog inputs it has) to tap the 0-5v output of the manifold sensor directly, or on the jb4 harness, before the piggyback modifies it. It also can read boost over canbus for flash tunes or stock cars, or from it's own analog sensors with a vacuum line. 3 ways to go about it.

I have made a number of these for people. I use the vent on top of the dash to the left and custom make a pod for 52mm or 60mm gauges. It is completely reversible as the plastic vent piece is 3.50$ to replace at the dealer.

If there is enough interest I guess I could make a few of them.

Solid info Rick, thanks!

How about using a charge pipe? I have one with a meth bung and instead of putting in a meth injector, I can have a buddy make a small adapter for a pressure line which goes into a boost sensor.

Looks to me like the charge pipe would be the perfect place to read it from. Correct?
