I am with you on going faster, even in the M3 I find that there are not too many people you can play with at lapping days even in the advanced/instructor group. Many are going dedicated or spec racing in lower horsepower cars. I am thinking the new cayman gt4 may be the way to go and even then it will probably be very quick and capable. I guess that is what chumpcar racing is for.

It is relatively affordable, not extremely fast and so far all the people I met were fun and great help. I cannot do it since I am on call all the time.
The other thing is the Radical SR3 or SR8 you may want to try out. The SR8 is outright scary. Hard to adjust to a car with real downforce. I can't. Just cant think fast enough and start to make mistakes and the whole lap just falls apart. Besides, the maintenance is quite expensive on the Radicals even if the cars themselves are not.

Thanks! I have thought about picking up an interseries cayman as a track dedicated car. Would love to do the racing part but wish I was more centrally located to the race venues. Not sure how much more I can push my luck with the Wife. She doesn't say anything now with the current schedule. But a bunch more days and she might start to notice.

You can pick up a new Cayman Interseries car for about 110-120K now with PDK. The non-PDK cars are almost as fast as my GT3RS. The PDK cars probably faster.
With all honesty, it will be a costly and time consuming hobby. You need a very understanding/interested wife, quite a lot of free time, and at least one good mechanic (besides you) to run the car properly. My cost estimation, just to run the car - still have it somewhere - came out about 70K/year. This included all consumables (5-6 sets of tires, 8 sets of brake pads, 3 sets of steel rotors, brake fluids, oils, fuel, fees, etc and suspension component (the RSS rear control arm pins do not last longer than 2-3 weekends) and some travel expenses. I estimated 3 races and at least 6-8 practice sessions.

As someone having trouble justifying a $10k Spec Miata (at least until my pending house purchase is finalized), that's crazy to me. You could buy 2 MX-5 Cup cars and run them every race weekend for that price

Yes, very true (maybe a little over 10K for a good one though)
I said on this forum several times, the MX-5 is a truly great car on track. You can have just as much fun with the MX-5 than with any P-car.
Also one can argue a shifter cart would be even less and maybe faster and more challenging. The reason I got (almost) into the Cayman Interseries is an amazing local workshop and some collages who are actively involved.

Cool - thanks for the info, the costs are about what I expected to run, would hope to run more than 3 of the races if I was going to do it. Unfortunately I don't have a ton of free time on my hands or an interested wife, not sure how understanding she would be either at that point LOL.

Maybe in a couple of years it will make more sense if I can find more time.
