2010 135i/335i vs 2010 Audi S4

I'm currently in the process of deciding between these three cars. I went to test drive both the BMWs but only the 335i was available. Of course the 335i was an absolute blast. However, the salesman firmly told me the twin clutch transmission like the one on the M3 will NOT be offered on the 3 Series, ever. I don't think that's true according to this article http://paultan.org/archives/2008/07/...-clutch-m-dct/ not to mention common sense that BMW will need to offer this in order to compete with the upcoming S4 which will also feature Audi's 7 Speed dual clutch S-Tronic. I was wondering however, will the new 1 Series get the redesigned i-Drive like on the new 3 Series? I'm torn between the 1 and the 3 but I would probably go with the 3 since it actually appears to be cheaper to lease and it will offer the twin clutch. The new i-Drive might be enough to sway me from the S4 as I am not a big fan of the current MMI nav (although I'm hoping Audi will release the redesigned MMI soon). So do you think I should wait? What kind of lease rates should I expect for an almost loaded 135i/335i with Steptronic?

The new S4 has the newest iteration of MMI, and its supposed to be pretty sweet.

Wow that was confirmed? Thanks. The only thing about the S4 is, it's a completely redesigned first year model. I'm thinking maybe leasing a used 335 for a couple years then buying the S4 once Audi has sorted the kinks out. Then again, Audi usually tests its models pretty extensively before releasing.

If you're only looking at rwd bmw's i would give the edge to the s4. It should be modable too, supercharged v6 should be in there soon. Add pulleys to it and your looking at jb3 territory.

I love when guys at the end of the line who have no control over the development of a product make comments like this.

Yes, the 1's have a new iDrive for '09 along with a redesigned dash (no more flip-up LCD).

Since I'm feeling helpful today:

The 1's are also getting a heated steering wheel option and a ZMP package with 261 wheels, Le Mans Blue paint and an anthracite headliner on top of the standard sport package. The config is a bit goofy at the moment but if you select LeMans it adds the extra bits.

S4 review by EVO:

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...3/audi_s4.html

The good:
More fun than you’d believe possible

The bad:
Daytime running lights are a bit bling

If the only bad thing is the lights (which I actually like) this new S4 should be a success!

No, but then again it's not a 2.0T inline 4 producing 247bhp/236lb-ft tq Mistake on EVO's part!

But yeah this new S4 should be great, and if the current RS4 is anything to go by this new one should be a monster!

The 7-speed DCT tranny is already available on the '09 E92 335i in Europe, and should be available here in the U.S. for the '10 335i...of course that's not confirmed yet. But, like you said, the new Audi has it, so it would be a very big mistake for BMW not to make the DCT tranny available on the U.S. 335i. I think BMW will do the right and bring the 7-speed DCT tranny to the U.S. for MY '10.

I remember Reading somewhere that stated the 335 will NOT be receiving the DCT in the States, has anyone else heard similar?

Also I have been told by a friend who happens to work at an Audi dealers and during a dealer intro to the S4 got to sample it along side both forms if the 335 and said we will be amazing by the new S4 (with Sportdiff). It's meant to be even better to drive than the RS4 with even higher cornering speeds and a chassis which has REAL throttle balance.

I can wait it get a go myself.

Road and Track said the new S4 is slower (straight line) than the outgoing model but offers significantly better fuel economy. Not sure how tunable a S/C car is, I would assume not as easily as a turbo car.

I disagree...this S4 is going to be fast with more supporting tuners than BMW....and will soon eat up 33.....don't wanna say it...it's just sad to think about it.
