Question professional radio display fading

I have recently bought an '06 320d and I've noticed a problem with the stereo. When I switch it on in the morning its fine but as residual heat builds up in the cabin through the day from the sun, when I switch it on for the drive home the display is all faded. I can hardly read it! Does anyone know if it can be fixed? I've been told I have to replace the unit. So my second question is: how can I find the product number for the one that's currently fitted so I know which one to replace it with? Do I have to take it out first or is there another way to find it?

The one fitted at the moment is BMW professional.

Thanks
