Question Exhaust tip replacement

Is it possible? I hear they were welded on to the E9X's but what with black tips and chrome tips available, surely they removable and replaceable on the F30?

It's just that the dual chrome exhaust tips on my 328i are knackered from the soot and shite that comes out and if a set of new tips are cheap, it would be nice to stick a fresh set on!

So does anybody know how one would go about removing and installing them? And where a set of dual chrome tips are available to buy?

I had considered replacing the silver chrome with the black chrome. Dealer told me it was a cut and weld job only. I didn't opt for it.

See that was right for the last generation 3 Series but I believe that's not the case on the F30...

Hmm......

I believe they were talking out of their arses. I had the black ones fitted ready for when I picked up the car. If it had involved cutting and welding I think it would have been mentioned. I think there's a small screw holding them on.

When I replaced the my single pipe with the dual chrome exhaust, I asked for the single pipe back. The tip was spot welded to the exhaust pipe, as a result I chuck the pipe away.

It's not screwed only a rubber ring holds it in position which you can take off with a rubber hammer

My pair of black exhaust tips are just held on by spring clips that grip the outside of the pipe. No screw, no spot weld just a push fit.

As shown in the pictures - just push them on and pull them off. Maybe use a mallet and some WD40 if one gives you some problem. I went from chrome to black chrome in about 2 minutes.

I have just had a look at my car and you are obviously spot on. I will be on the phone to my dealer tomorrow. Do you have the part number for the black chrome?

Fantastic!! We have a DEFINITIVE ANSWER!!!

So, that's the how part. Though I should add that a person should not carry out this work immediately after the car has been running. Could be a little toasty!

Now, where can one purchase the dual exhaust tips and what is one expected to fork out for a pair?

When I bought the car I just said I wanted them fitted along with the black kidney grilles. I think they are fitted to the Sport model?

I was close

I knew it wasn't complicated because I got charged pennies for fitting them and the grilles. If I'd pushed I'm sure I could have got it FOC.

I'm assuming your talking about the dual exhaust? Yes, it's the M Performance exhaust pipe finishers in chrome, see here: http://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owner...es-saloon.html

Garage List
What about items 6 and 7 as per this link?

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...74&hg=18&fg=20

No. 06, Tailpipe tip, chrome, Qty 1, Part No. 18307610637
No. 07, Tailpipe tip, chrome, Qty 1, Part No. 18307610637

They seems to quote the same part number for both but in the illustration they look different lengths
