If it was alcantra or suede or something I think it would attract many more people, but cloth? I'd have to see/feel it in person i guess

The alcantara would wear out like crazy! The steering wheel on my ZCP E46 M3 is alcantera and it looks like crap! The car has 20k miles on it and the wheel started looking worn and fuzzy at like 12k miles! So imagine what the seats would look like in time.....

+1

I don't recommend suede/alcantara (except for the roof lining, hehe) on the seats & steering wheel. I had a Mugen suede steering wheel on my old Honda S2000 & within 5k-7k miles, the suede areas I touched the most wore out badly. Thus, I can't imagine it on a seating surface.

Aclantara is very, very durable. It does not last as long on the steering wheel because of sweat, but seats last forever! I have a car that has lots of aclantara on the seats and they last and last. Its also really easy to clean.

I'm not trying to compare it to the all-leathaer option but this quote's from the R&T article online:

"The seats are excellent — smooth black leather bolsters, grippy dark cloth inserts..."

Not great pics but more from different angles courtesy (again) of R&T:

Yes, all-leather is part of the $1900 Premium package or $950 stand-alone option. I'm undecided what to do & production starts next week for me. Sigh...

I would assume US versions do not get the stripe on the front adjustable cushion?

Yes, we do here in the states. The pics I just posted are the U.S. version as well as some of the pics in the 1st post of this thread. You can tell it's the U.S. version by looking at the bottom seat side bolsters. You know...we get the craptastic flat non-angular one's. Here are pics of the U.S. version:

And here's the Euro-spec version, notice the bottom seat side bolsters are different (angular not flat):

Yep, we get the stripes in the States. They are half the reason I am getting cloth!

Hmmm, it's a trivial difference. I don't understand why it's such a focal point for you.

I don't notice the difference in the side bolsters...still, that is awesome that the US spec definitely has the stripe.

just saw that the e90 m3 featured in the latest issue of R&T featured speed cloth interior. Good reviews from the editor. Also, I did not know that you could get cold weather package with speed cloth (thought that heated seats would conflict with the cloth), but the test car definitely had heated seats...sweet!

..because not everybody cares about full leather, and because not everybody wants to deal with the maintenance, cracking, etc. The cloth center portions stay cooler in the summer (..warmer in the winter) as well.

Yes my '05 Comp.Pkg ///M3 has cloth/leather interior. Conversely, my '03 ///M3 had Imola Red leather. When my "then girlfriend" would get into my car, I'd always worry about her various belts, pant rivets, etc. scratching my seat bolsters/seating surfaces (..which they did). There are other reasons why I prefer the cloth/leather (..or aptly named Speed Cloth) to full leather interiors, but everybody has an opinion/perspective.
