Get a 335, but not the "i" model.

Even though based on the OP's post, he should get a 335i, but your above statement is simply not true. The 335i's are now suffering bad publicity and there are many accounts of people stealing CPO 335i's, but not CPO 328i's.

Beamer, bimmer, I'm new to the BMW game. I was always a Jdm fan but lately my tastes have changed. To be specific, I'm looking for a fast, exciting car. I'll be daily driving it, but I want it to be fun to drive every day. I'm currently in an 03 F150 and that's REALLY boring unless you're offroad. Which I never am. So, excitement, speed(mostly street use, maybe occasional track use), at a reasonable price. I'm looking to spend about $30,000 initially, which kinda puts an M3 out of the running, sadly. After that mods will come as I get the money. I think I'm leaning towards the 335i, I was mostly curious as to any tuning for a 328i, but the first few posts shot that down.
Thanks again! |

So, BMWFS, the king of leasing (so it seems) uses BS numbers to value all their leases? Car sales people are generally the least reliable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable people on the plant. They are trying to *sell* you something and tell you what you want to hear.

If you want to make 350hp or so easily without spending a lot of money then you should get the 335i and not the 328i.

I browse this forum frequently and I have seen nobody post about stealing a CPO'ed 335i. Even so if a bunch of shifty people were able to scam a few sellers with their alarmist claims that doesn't destroy the whole 335i market. Quote:
I know two BMW salesmen on a personal level, and they've violated company policy and given me privileged information multiple times for my benefit. I've even taken them to track events. There's no shenanigans involved when they say BMWFS numbers aren't accurate. It's in their honest experience. The conservative estimated past experience based BMWFS numbers are just that and even the sales people agree, not suprising. Look, I'm a financial analyst. It's my job to figure things like this out all day. I just ran the numbers again with today's used 3 series prices, here is my conclusion: Within my region it costs, based on current average pricing figures, $15 more in depreciation (that's fifteen dollars) over 3 years to own a base 335i coupe compared to a base 328i coupe with the same standard options as a 335i. You can be confused and disagree with this number, but it's simply the truth.

Why don't you do some research. If you want a 350hp N/A engine go get a E46 M3. Thats why there's a M division. You cannot take the lowest 3 series and make it a M3. If you like the E92 but don't want a turbo then go with an E92 M3. Best is 335. juicebox and a few bolt-ons and you are at 400whp.

I just bought my first bmw and i had the same thoughts....never drove either one, but knew the power difference would be a deciding factor. I got the 335 and never have regrets. If you are looking for horse power then def go with 335, cruiser and NOTHING else 328.
My thing is if both are in your price range def get the best bang for your buck, 335. I know that there are HFPF problems but the dealer takes care of that for you. |

If you're going to mod the thing anyway, just get the 335i and use the money you would have spent on trying to make the 328 quicker on paying for things that might break.
You'll get like 25% back on mods if you're lucky, so just get the car that's the speed you want right off the bat whether that's a 328, 335, or m3. |
