Speed cloth FTW!!!!
Looks like my interior!

I finally get to update this thread with some shots I took on delivery day. I hope to have more up this weekend. I am open to requests if anyone wants close ups or shots of anything in particular.

The only thing I miss from not getting the Premium Package is the Homelink mirror as weak as that sounds. I have seen some retrofits on other E92/E90s, but none on an M3 yet. I will probably give it a go at some time.

speed cloth options

I would like Homelink as well. I would think it would be an easy retrofit.

Has anyone confirmed if I can get heated speed cloth seats? Has anyone seen them?

You know Tut, I've had mine for over a month and still have yet to program the damn thing. From what I understand from reading the manual, its a bit of a pain in the ass when you have the rolling code type like mine.

As for the compass mirror - I was relying on the thing during a trip and for whatever reason it got stuck on NW and wouldn't change no matter where I turned. I told my wife I wanted to trade her for her "normal" mirror. Additionally I never use the folding sideviews, although its kinda neat I suppose. Bottom line though is that I never would have ordered premium myself, but it was spec'd on this car and I bought it off the lot.

I don't know why they couldn't put it in the upper console like it is on the E46 M3. Then it would be a simple retrofit. I was thinking about ripping apart one of my garage door openers and trying a stealth button install somewhere, but I would prefer to keep it all OEM goodness.

Here are some pictures of speed cloth. It was raining outside so I wasn't able to take outside pictures. Everything was shot under 5 incandescent recessed lights. I personally love speed cloth. It looks amazing in real-life. Flash tends to reflect light off the cloth and make it look lighter then it really is. It's really difficult to accurate photograph. It's only slightly lighter then the leather in natural lighting and really gives the interior a contrast. Definitely sporty looking. :thumbsup2:

If leather was synonymous with high-end cars I would see your point but a $25K Hyundai has leather interior these days and a $280K Ferrai 430 Scuderia doesn't. So having leather doesn't make an interior/car look expensive anymore than not having it makes an interior/car look cheap. Especially this cloth. In fact IMO the stitching actually adds more character to the interior.

I might be in the minority with this point of view but honestly it is how I feel.

Speed cloth has to be seen to be truly appreciated. Even if I had to pay extra for it, I would. I ordered my my stripped-down M3 with almost no options, and I was much happier ordering my M3 that way. The reason for getting speed cloth really doesn't have to be about saving money since it really is an excellent option. I'm very happy BMW offers it.

A good portion of the seat is still leather though?

Since that's the case, why not just keep the door panel leather as well?

Since I'm on the topic, why not offer Alcantara seats also?

I do like the speed cloth though, it's different and I would be happy with it. I'm not sure I'd order it that way but I might, if I were buying used it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
