Is it time yet?
Are you guys swapping out your winter shoes for the summer performance rubber soon given the extremely mild weather we've been having?

I'm extremely tempted to.. but two of my summer rims are bent from an accident when we had that sudden freak snow storm around October so I'm ordering over the weekend. I don't think this warm weather is going to let up soon, and I got the news saying stuff like "DC Cherry Blossoms set to Bloom Early", so I think it's safe to start going back to the summer tires. It's also a "La Nina" year, and being the opposite of El Nino will most likely give us a warm, wet rest of Winter/Spring and a mild, wet summer. The ten day forecast in my area says it's staying above 60 every day but tomorrow (which is 58). I'd go for it.. after I order my replacement stuff this weekend, it'll probably be on within two weeks. I know my winter tires have been screeching and probably wearing down extra fast in the 70 degree days. Ugh.

I was going to do it last sunday, but it rained and my winter tires are at my dad's house, which is a 40 minute drive from my house. I'm gonna do it this next week for sure though. I can't wait to get my stickier tires on and my VMRs back on!

I'm always afraid of the weather laughing at me the day after I swap with a nice late season snowstorm.
Anyone switch to Michelin Super Sports? Those are the tires I'm looking at now. |

I've got those on my summer wheels. I bought them last October. I love them. I highly recommend them.

The one positive to having a laundry list of problems with my car in the 1+ years I've owned it is that the dealer (Thompson BMW in Doylestown, Pa) takes care of me with little stuff like this. I'm also getting the 7/100 extended warranty (gold) for $1,600. That was was after countless phone calls to BMW NA.

LOL -small world - grew up in Doylestown. Thompson is a really good set of dealerships (not to be confused with Fred Beans - ugh ); parents have been happy with them for years. If you ever need an indy, Zygmunt across from Mercer Museum is fair and honest.
For anyone interested, Michelin is having a prepaid $70 card sale now on tires; ordered up my Super Sports (Consumers Guide listed them at the top, which surpised me, since they're normally such sticks in the mud) from Tirerack, and will be mounted at STS in Chalfont on Saturday. Will be happy to have my summers back on. |
