Exclamation CBS Light: Front & Rear Pads + Handbrake Light - normal at 45k?

Hi All,

*added pictures - I just find it weird that the "BRAKE" light, Rear Brake Service, and Front Brake Service lights all come on at the same time.

I check my CSB/Service indicator at least twice a week - and at the beginning of the week, it said I had 7,000 miles on front brakes and I believe 10,000 miles on rear brakes.

* Also just last week, I had the car at the dealership for a brake fluid flush/change as well - which at that time, they reset the CSB for brake fluid.

Well this morning my Service Light (Car on Lift) went off. So I checked the CSB and it says that both front and rear brakes need serviced (both came on at the exact same time). ALSO my Handbrake light is now constantly illuminated while the car is on, even though the handbrake is not engaged.

With that, I have a few questions;
- Is it normal for both Front and Rear Brake Service Indicators to go off, even though the mileage for both were different?
- Is it normal for the Handbrake indicator to be active as well?
- If not, would you think it is a faulty relay or something?
- The vehicle has 47k, based on that mileage do rotors usually need replacing or just pads

- If this is normal, what is the average cost at a BMW dealership to replace;
- Front & Rear Pads
- Front & Rear Pads and Rotors

*My car is scheduled to go in the shop Tuesday for Wastegate replacement (for the second time), so they are going to look at the brakes then - but I am hoping to gather some information so that I can be informed before then.

Thanks so much!

You can look inside the wheel and see how much brake pad you have left. It's possible the sensors died but there is plenty of pad, so all you'd need is new sensors.

Thanks, CJ421 - I would assume that there are separate front and rear sensors that are independent of each other, correct? If so, wouldn't it be an extremely rare coincidence that both front & rear sensors fail at the exact same time? Or do they 'connect/meet' at one relay?

I will take a look and 'visually' inspect the pads this afternoon. Last time I washed the car, I did look over the rotors and they looked good. I will take another look though and report back.

Thanks for the help!

about the brake light that's constantly illuminated; it will stay like that until you get the brake issue fixed, you can also rest the csb setting by yourself if you think your pads are fine and that will turn the brake light off. But if that's the issue it means your sensors are messed up and you need to change them out. GL!

Great, thanks for the information "gindajatt1"! I wasn't sure about the illuminated Brake Light. I found it a bit strange that Handbrake light is no illuminated as well, as I was not sure they were tied together. But it sounds as if the Handbrake light does become activated once the CBS light for brakes is activated.

Pics added.

I just find it weird that the "BRAKE" light, Rear Brake Service, and Front Brake Service lights all come on at the same time. Especially since the mileage on the Front and Rear Brake Service were different.

My car is actually getting new front pads and rotors right now. The CSB came on before the BRAKE light on the dash. That came on about 20 miles after the board computer said a change was due. My rears are still fine though.

Thanks, KMEddy - that further makes me suspect there is another issue and actually not worn pads.

As stated, just a few days ago it said 7,000 miles and 10,000 miles until they needed replaced (Per CSB).
