Angry How come people refer to the Z4 as a "girly car" or "chick car" ?

How come people refer to the Z4 as a "girly car" or "chick car". It annoys the hell out of me as most probably couldnt even handle the power the E89 delivers, not to mention my 2011 35i, its a rocket.

So where did this stereotype come from??

Screw what other people say or think. The only opinion that really matters is yours.

I thought it was the "hair stylist's" car. Hair stylists can be male too =)

It's very falic to be a girls car, no?
Ironic since two women designed the car.

And no, before anyone asks, nothing to overcompensate here.

The Z3 setup up this stereotype. The Z4 is a great guy car but can never escape the shadow of the Z3. Even James Bond couldnt make the Z3 manly....

I used to hear that with my s2000.. people just generalize 2 seat verts as being girl cars. Not sure why. Although for the most part I think a Miata is a girl car..

Funny - there was a similar post today on a Porsche forum by a Boxster owner, with an almost identical title.

This. BMW had the E89 revamped completely by a team of woman to give it the appeal it was missing with the E85/86.

As I said earlier, it's a size thing. Z4, Boxster, slk etc. are perceived as more feminine as small(ish). While 6series, 911, SL are seen as more masculine. It's all nonsense of course.

all two seat verts eh? never heard the 458 spider called a girls car. It takes a very manly car to make up for the fact it's a convertible (not just 2 seated)– hence z4s, miatas, e93s, etc don't have the gusto, and are very much chick cars in my eyes. I'd personally never get a 2 door vert unless i was 70 or a woman– to each their own tho, this is just IMO.

How does an E93 not "have the gusto"? It's the same car as what you drive!

Not to sound like an old-timer, but this whole sexual insecurity thing is pretty recent. No one thought of the Austin-Healey 3000, MGA roadster, or even the Sprite/Midget as "girly cars." If you kids would hit the gym and lay off the mousse or whatever, you wouldn't live in terror of being mistaken for girls all the time. At least you could do something about it when you are.

Gotta run, heading out to Gold's to get my workout in before I drive my vert to Mom's for Mother's day (true statement)

I didnt say all of them were girly. I was saying that people seem to generalize them as such. I havent heard anyone say anything bad at all about the 458 spider. I dont think the super cars can really be brought into this discussion.
