Is the camera I bought any good?

Hi, I just bought a Canon Powershot G10 so I could take some nice pictures of my car, I don’t know anything about cameras and would like to know what you guys think about it. I didn’t want to spend too much money, so the $500 I spent on it is my max. budget. Did I make a good buy or should I return it for something else? Thanks guys.

with a $500 budget, you could have got a much better camera, such as a low end DSLR, maybe a nikon D40 or one of the canon rebel series slrs

G10 is a great point and shoot camera. It's definitely no DSLR but it does have the new DiGIC IV processor and 14.7MP with different modes that you can play with. Under normal operating conditions with ISO of 50-400, the picture comes out really nice even before P-Chop. Higher ISOs might be a problem though, with jagged edges.

Zoom wise I think it's adequate. It can definitely use some wide angle lens but the adapter is expensive. Flash is some what slow if you want to take consecutive shots, but it does have a hot shoe that would accept Canon's EX flashes.

Here's a sample shot of South Boston, aka Southie

I use it for both my Canon 5D MkII and G9.
