FIXED: Sliding coin noise when turning

I haven't had my 335i for long, but there has been this sliding noise that has been driving me crazy when turning, not accelerating. Everything I had read on here was saying it was coming from the air vents from under the seats. Seemed logical, it sounded like it was a metal abacus each time I turned. I pulled a seat out last night to get the coins out and I was shocked to hear the noise when I lifted the seat out at an angle! The coins were IN the seats!!!

After looking around and yanking on stuff, I realized the coins got in via the knee bolsters! I pulled those out, and pulled the leather and a flap opened up and the coins were right there!

FYI, their are two voids where the coins can go, one directly below this, and one slightly behind that, not visible but I had coins in both and could easily reach my hand back and grab them. What an easy fix, check this first before removing your seats, heck before shoving your hand under there even!!!!

that would have drove me insane. Coins seem to do some strange things inside cars and none of them good.

How did you remove the thigh bolster? I had my airbag sensor replaced by the dealership, and now it doesn't slide back completely flush with the seat anymore.

Glad you found it, I had a pen in the vent under the seat from the previous owner that was rolling around. Pulled it out and no more noise while turning

So that's why I carry my coins in one of those little oval-shaped coin "pockets". I got into the habit when I was in Law Enforcement - we didn't want coins jangling in our pockets when movng around in a suspected burglary location. And BTW, the easiest way to flush out the bad guys in that situation is jacking a shell into the 12-gauge's chamber. In a warehouse, it echoes everywhere, and they just won't take a chance with a shotgun pointed their way!

I didn't have to remove it for this, I extended it all the way out, and yanked on the leather flap that covers the innards, and it just slides into a grove that is on the side towards the dash. If you look at the picture above, the black plastic on the flap, those are what slides into to secure the flaps. It would be worth the 5 minutes of pulling those off, looking inside to see if there is something in there preventing your bolsters from seating properly.

Thank god for this forum! The sliding noise around corners has been driving me insane for months! Tried to search before but it's kind of a difficult thing to describe. Went straight to the work carpark as soon as I read this and found lots of coins, Pounds and Euros! As a result of reading this:
  • The Sliding Noise that has driven me mad is fixed
  • Lunch is on my car today
  • Learnt my car has had a trip to europe

Thanks again so much for posting this, It has made my day.

Side question (not worth a thread) - if you have heated seats, is the thigh bolster also supposed to heat up?

No, mine never have; And I've never seen any wires attached to it either.

I've got some sliding coin noise coming from my center arm rest when I accelerate and brake. Seems like it is inside the cover of the arm rest???

Sounds like you got the coins in the air ducts under the seat. That's the culprit of most of the accelerating and braking coin/sliding noise.

A damn penny! It was like nails on a chalk board. Fetcho, your fix should be accompanied by a celestial chorus. Well, that said, I'm going out to throw my e92 into some corners, and all I'll hear will be tires. Thank you.

Guarantee here that it's the vent under the driver seat or passenger which face the back seat.it's a coin magnet...Get a flashlight and something long & narrow and go a fishing.
