LOL, you are talking to the king of being offensive. Thick skin. Listen bud, I am born and raised Lutheran, so I have my beliefs, just like you do. So please, spare my buzz, and my thread, and be goneth to thy holy land.

I know its OT, but nobody goes OT in my OT threads. So stop ruining the fun of my threads intention.

I find it interesting that my father in law totally believes in ghost, aliens and all that stuff. He is constantly having "experiences" at every house he's ever lived in.

I on the other hand don't and I have never had any kind of "experience". Don't get me wrong, I still get creeped the fuck out about creepy situations, however that's pretty much where it ends.

One time I got seriously creeped the fuck out. It was like 3am and my girl friend wakes me up saying there is noise coming from the house (we were in the bedroom with the door closed). So I get up and listen and I totally hear people talking. So I get my gun and slooooowly peak out the door. TV was on in the living room... ok... we definitely did not leave the TV on. Then as I walk around to the family room, TV on also! Now that one never gets turned on so I sure as fuck know that one was off. I check the rest of the house and find nothing.

Anyways I later tell this story to her dad and of course he starts going off about ghost and shit. Then one day I'm working from home and power goes out for a little while. Now I work in my office and the rest of the house is empty and quiet. Shortly after the power comes back on I hear the TV in the living room come on. I go to the family room, same thing. Of course I immediately Google my TV and power outage and learn about some asinine feature that turns them on after a power outage. That's the closest I ever got to having an "experience".

I had a similar experience in 2003 with a hair dryer in our bedroom. It was off all day then all of a sudden in the middle of the night I can't tell you how late it was but my gf and I were both knocked out I was so tired I didn't think of anything creepy i just got up and turned it off.

It was probably 3am. I remember reading something about the significance of these events happening at 3am.

Most of mine were as well.

Somewhat similar to paranormal activity is dolls. Especially those life like porcelain dolls. They creep me the fuk out. I had a bad experience as a child and I think it's still messed me up to this day.

Sara, any stories about them Voodoo dolls? I know they're popular in New Orleans.

My sister had them in her room. I would never dare enter as a child. Shit is fucking creepy. I don't care who you are.

I'm a firm believer in what can be demonstrated. Ghosts have never been demonstrated to me. Any anecdotal evidence I've been presented with has only been justified by appealing to either an Argument from Ignorance or Argument from Incredulity.

I'm much too aware of how vastly inept our senses are, our psychological shortcomings (confirmation bias, the nature of schemas) and (sometimes) our lack of ability to use basic reason, to be convinced that ghosts are real.

p1. I heard something!
p2. don't know what it was
c. Therefore, it was a ghost

p1. I experienced something!
p2. I don't know what it was
c. I can't think of what else it could be. Must have been a ghost.

Next time you experience something "spooky", ask yourself: Is it more or less likely that these events are being cause by my neighbor using voodoo, a God, Aliens with ESP, or some other unexplained force. How can I objectively determine which supernatural cause is more likely vs what I answer just "feels right to me". What if it's a supernatural cause I've never heard of or been exposed to. How is that different that a natural cause that I'm just not aware of.

And finally, an example of why it's good to keep your imagination in check:

This is exactly why I wish we had camera phones when I went spirit searching with two of my buddies. All three of us witnessed the marks on my arm when we went to the bridge. There were no obstructions, even walking down the hill to the train tracks. We planned on going back to my buddies to take a picture, but when we got back, there was nothing...,

How can anyone possibly have an explanation for that? I was skeptical before it happened, but once it did, my views changed drastically.

I haven't had much experience other than what I wrote above. But, my friend Sam has had quite an experience. It happened a while back when he was soon to marry his fiancé Molly. They were attacked by an armed assailant one night and one of them was killed. There was this whole thing with his friend Carl and money laundering. Somehow he was able to keep typing "MURDERER" and "SAM" on his computer. Then he told me about Willie who proceeded to rise as a ghost and then be dragged into the darkness by many shadowy demons. Sam then told me he was tired because possession of a human body taxes a ghost. Carl was holding his fiancé hostage one night but Sam intervened and the demons that took Willie away also came for Carl. Then Molly realized she could hear Sam.

A light filled the room and Sam became visible to Molly. Sam looked behind him and saw hundreds of people in a gateway. With his task completed, Sam said farewell to Molly, thanked Oda Mae for her help, then walked into the light.

That's exactly right. Given how little you were able to evaluate or understand the situation, how CAN anyone possibly have an explanation for that?

Yet, you did manage to come up with an explanation. You went from "I can't possibly know or explain this" to "it was ghosts". A very common fallacy.

I believe ghosts exist. I believe in other universes as well. I think that perhaps to ghosts, we are thr ghosts and vice versa. Anyhow, while I have not personally seen a ghost, someone in my family has and the story is below.

We immigrated here from Vietnam. One of my aunts married a guy here. Some years ago her mother-in-law and her mom in law's sister (aunt in law) along with my aunt and her husband visited Vietnam. Her MIL and AIL were sleeping at my grandparents' house (my aunt's parents) on the second floor one of the nights that they were in our home city. In the middle of the night, the MIL went to use the restroom when she saw a tall female figure cloaked in white standing at the end of the stairs asking who she was and where she was going. She was scared but answered that she was going to the restroom. As she made her way down the stairs that figure kelt staring at her. Freaked out, she went back to her bed. The next day she asked her sister if she saw anything and her sister said there was a female figure walking around their bed looking in at them. She had to say something like "we don't mean any harm. We're just here to sleep for the night." Before the figure disappeared.

My grandparents' house was big. I spent most of my childhood there. It's been in our family for generations and through wars and such. I am sure some people have passed away there (an uncle of mine did). When the story was told to my grandparents , they said that was probably the guardian of the house. She was questioning their intention because my aunt was married in the US and thus they never met the other, now family members.

Another thing too: that second floor where they slept, there's a room with shrines of some family members that have passed. When I was little, my siblings, cousins and I would sometimes go up there and pray to show our respect. However, we could never stay longer than maybe 15-30 seconds. We would run up, pray really quick and run back down. There was this heavy energy in the room and we always felt like someone was there watching us.

How can you evaluate a situation and claim it as a fallacy, when there is in fact no hard evidence leaning towards it was or wasn't something of a different entity?

Again, it boils down to speculation. Your opinion isn't wrong, to you, and that's okay. The only people we need to convince in this world are ourselves and the people we want to fuck.
