M3 as Commuter Car
I was just wondering how many of you use the M3 as a commuter car for everyday use. If so, do you take it on the freeways and how does it feel driving for long distances?

you cannot buy a M3 for a commuter. it is only to be used on the tract. It drives horrible on the freeway, and is very uncomfortable for any longer then 20 minutes.

I concur. If you want a comfy commuter, get an Exige instead.

You can drive the M3 as a commuter car, especially if you have EDC, so you can drive in 'comfort' or 'normal' mode on the highways. The only downfall is the gas mileage, so if you have a very long commute, the fuel tank (very small) and fuel consumption (18-19/per gallon on the highway) may give you pause.

I said to myself that I would not use my ///M3 as a DD but when I go to bed at night, after taking care of my girl, all I can do is think about the ///M3. In the morning, after I take care of my girl, I can't wait to get in the ///M3 and drive; even if it's only for six miles to go to work.
The sound of the V8, the softness of the leather and the bad-ass factor of the M3 makes my morning that much better. So yes, as a DD it is great! Extremely comfortable inside and the ride quality is sublime; however, get ready to feel the pain at the pump...LOL. -SZ |

Mine is DD as well, with a round trip commute of ~50 miles. Most of the posters who use theirs as a DD also have pretty much summed it up - very comfortable (esp considering what car this is), esp w/ EDC but get ready to feel it in your wallet. I gas up 2 x week. That gets old fast.
Before the M I had an 08' CTS and I enjoy this one on the commute so much more than the Caddy, its not even funny. |

I concur. the M3 is a great DD. I drive roughly 280 miles per week with an aftermarket airfilter and DCT and get about 22-24 highway MPG.

Why wouldn't it be a DD? There's tons of better weekend cars out there. The M3 is a "compromise" as it is. It's meant to be a Jekyll/Hyde DD.

I use mine as a daily driver too. I do about 20km round trip to work and back and the occasional arrand run during my day. I love it as a DD. A little bumpy though. Gas is a killer too. Other than that, it's a perfect DD.

I use my M3 as a daily driver. We go from +30celcius to -30celcius here and I can't wait to test out the M3 in snow conditions!
Although it would be nice having better mileage for the long hauls (TDi comes to mind), it's just way too much fun ripping through the gears and cruising and at more "appropriate" speeds to care. *ahem*

some of us use Trucks(me=Tundra) for a daily driver, so gas part of the negativity is not negative, lol.
I do get 16 mpg in it though, woot.

I love the way my M3 drives. It can be comfortable if you're just cruising, or it can shine as a performance car whenever you decide to push it. The gas mileage is bad, but it's still ok for me.
My M3 may not be a "Lincoln Towncar", but it's definitely a brilliant compromise of ultimate performance, refinement, and comfort. It's exactly my type of daily driver. Last edited by Nawaaz; 08-10-2009 at 04:20 PM.. |
