Question Asymmetrical Obliques/Hip Flexors ("V Cut")

Why would my v-cut be extremely defined on my right side but nearly non-existent the left? I used to be this level of body fat before, and I used to be super symmetrical, so I know it's not gene-related like everybody says when it comes to abdominal formation.

When I flex my lower abs they puff out further on the right too. Like I said before, this never used to be a problem (like a year back). Within the last year I put on some weight causing me to lose the v-cut altogether. Now it's coming back as I'm cutting down my BF, but only on one side. Some say that your body loses fat in random areas, but I feel like body fat isn't the reason because when I flex I really feel like there's nothing on my left side compared to my right. It barely flexes.

What can I do to equalize it? I used to do shit tons of plank-based exercises; barely do that many now. I've been trying to use cable machines, fixing my arm at a 90º angle and bending at my obliques, but it's hard to target them, and I never had to do that workout before. Also, I want to say I sleep on my right side 99% of the time because I heard sleeping on your left is bad for your heart. I noticed that my abs hang down when I sleep like that...could that be the problem? Should I try to sleep on my left?

I'd really appreciate the help guys. I miss my former symmetry.

*I do plenty of bicycle kicks, leg raises (usually combined with a set of controlled left/right swaying motions where you're laying down), mountain climbers, that exercise where you're in the mountain climber position and spike your knees up to the opposite point of your body, etc. My routine has changed, but not that much. Main exclusion would be simple plank exercises.

My trainer always told me to stay symmetrical never do less reps of the lesser side, even if you have to do less reps on the side that is more toned.

I used to be a pitcher, so my right side of my body was always a tad bigger due to me being right handed and doing many more reps of throwing with that arm. Takes time to get back even but you have to focus on the other side more and make sure you do the same reps as the other no matter what. Do reps according to what you can do on the weakest side, not the other. Nothing you can do quickly to fix it

probably not a helpful post

Yeah, I'm getting told that I just need to keep training equal amounts all around and my body will "average out" eventually. Never had this problem before though...I think it might be linked to me sleeping on my right side all the time.

I had this issue on my left bicep... so what I was taught was to start on my week side and do as many reps and weight. Match it on the stronger side...your stronger side wont grow, but it will be enough to give it a pump and keep size until you bring lagging side up to par.

You might want to throw in a bit of cardio into your routine, i always do a mile on the treadmill and a mile and a half on the stair master. Switch up your ab routines too, you always want to change up work outs/routine and add new ones into the mix. All about surprising the muscles!

your abdomen is usually the last place for males to lose bf, OP obviously is pretty lean. with that said, if he does more cardio/diet he will see more definition...but his problem will still be there. This is a muscular symmetry issue, not a bf issue.

bodies are never symmetrical...sometimes when you workout this becomes even more evident. i usually just do one or two sets more on my weaker side... this of course usually works only for isolation exercises

in the abs department some might be offset, no cure to genetics there... but as far as the rest of muscle size, that is why you MAKE your body symmetrical.

My traps/neck are the same way

But my abs used to be like that but have evened out (for the most part) from doing pretty heavy resistance/weight (10-15 reps in a set... which is a small amount for abs) crunches, reverse crunches, and super setting the 3 crunch machines and doing db sidebends for the obliques.
