07' 335i vs 04' 996

So I've had horrible luck with my car (nothing mechanically). It has been hit 3 times, keyed once, debris from a large truck cracked the windshield, and had shit thrown at it at night giving it a few small dents (which have since been removed). There's a 04 996' with 15k miles I've been eying, it has the X-50 power upgrade, full leather upgrade, nav, carbon ceramic breaks, and 3 piece Fiske wheels. Currently the place I'm looking at it wants 72k down from about 80k. I've made an offer of 62K but no go, what do you guys think?

I would get a new ZO6 or a GT-R for that much money. Both will probably tool the 996.

I agree, that's a lot of $ to pay for a 996 (least desirable bodystyle), but the prices may be leveling off for the 996 turbos.

What are you looking for in a car? I looked at a used 996 turbo before I got my 135... Maintenance costs and use as a daily driver was too much for me to swallow.

If you have that kind of money to burn, look at a ZO6 or a GT-R as mentioned above... If maintenance is an issue go for the ZO6, almost no maintenance, more performance than the 996. I may get one of these to replace the 135 eventually...

If you need AWD, look at the GT-R... not following the used market for those too closely but I would think soon you will see some in the upper 60's - low 70's.

Not really a GTR or a Z06 fan. Both are stupidly fast, but the Z06 has the totally sub rental interior, the GTR just totally substandard design inside and out. I'm not looking for an outright performance monster, I'm looking for a balanced car with style, grace and power. I'm not sure there's much out that can match the Porsche. I've also been looking at the Aston V8, what a great sound it makes.

Great car but way over priced. Look on the for sale section at 6 speed online. Great deals on that site.

Ceramics-replacement cost-make your head spin------

There are a few dealers doing 20K off 09' 997 models. FYI.

Oh ya dude go with the Vantage! You can find some nice ones for around 70k and that body style is classic. I dont think it'll ever look outdated. So classy, but has great power and you're correct that V8 sounds SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD!!!

That is extremely overpriced for a 996 Turbo. As said above, the ceramic brakes on early models were not something you wanted because they cost ridiculous amounts to replace. You can probably find a better car for that cost.

ummm the ceramic brakes cost a ridiculous amount to replace no matter what generation they are. whether its the 993 turbo s pccbs, or the 09 cayenne turbo s, they are pricey. you have to be a real moron to break them however.

^ True, but I don't think the 993 ever had an option of PCCBs, but I could be wrong. It thought they were first available on the 996 GT2's/3's. We had the option of getting them on our first GT3, an 04, and declined. And the are not that hard to "break," we have some good friends that track their cars a good amount during the summer and the PCCBs have a tendency to wear down quite quickly. We had one friend with a Challenge Stradale (Not PCCBs, but still ceramics) who raced his car until he had to get new pads and rotors.....it cost $30,000, haha, but that's a Ferrari. But we're very much on the same page here, for most people, PCCBs are an option that you probably don't need/want.

they were first introduced on the 993 turbo S i believe. i can be wrong but they DO have the yellow calipers but who knows about the actual pccbs themselves we have an 04 GT3 as well equipped with PCCBs and they have been holding up just fine. you just gotta remember to warm them up before pushing the car and know how to do so. at least that's what we've been doing. then again, the car sees the track probably about 12-15 days a year. if a hardcore track junkie wants PCCBs, i would recommend the brembo GTs.

youd be crazy to spend that much money when you can get an 07 turbo for about 20k more....

i rather have an 08 997 4s which can be found for about 70k

or as stated 911's are going for 20k below right now brand new...below it or not....
