OBD2 Cable:

If u google this lots of people sell them. Including on eBay.

Dickie
Great stuff, lots to look at, there is smoke coming out of my ears now!

Does this cable look right? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-F-Seri...item4ad78d8765

I wanted a UK seller as I can get a hold of it a lot quicker.

Judging by the link above, you don't need a token for a lot of things, but I guess this can be bought if needed once I have a cable.

With regard to the get together, we can leave it to the weekend after if you want, but it will have to be the Sunday (17th) as I'm at work on the Saturday?

Paul
Either weekend works for me, but if the 17th is easier for Dickie and Steve then that sounds like a better plan.

Digital speed, yes. Gear in auto, not that I've seen or found myself.

That eBay cable linked to is similar to the one I got. The seller I got mine through is no longer selling them and I paid £18, but on the face of it, it looks like a quality item.

Okay, so shall we say Sunday 17th with a 10am start?

Tr0y, are we okay meeting at yours as it sounds like you have a big enough drive to accommodate a few cars? - mine can just manage 3, but has 2 on there already?

If so, do you want to PM myself, DickieGibbo and Steve_M_Sport details.

Alternatively, Steve and Richard are fairly close to each other, so we could do a trip to that side of town?

I'll do some digging about the gear display, that is cool.

Also I'll order the cable and install the software on my laptop in advance.

I am happy with a 10am start on Sunday 17th at my place, I can easily accommodate all of our cars comfortably and I have power outside for the laptops. I'll send a message around with the address.

I've had a play with the software and have enabled video in motion, door handle LED's come on when reversing , change mirror fold delay with remote, enabled phone ringtone through car, changed BMW logo in black panel cluster to M Performance, and enabled ambient lighting one when unlocking - thanks Paul for your help even though we weren't able to meet last Sunday.

What else is worth doing to improve/personalise the car ?

Has anyone found out how to illuminate the dashboard dials during the daytime ?

Is there a complete guide to the coding options available anywhere ?

Changing the boot to open and close with one press of the remote is worth doing (rather than having to hold the button to close). Also I find the speed limiter really useful.

Hope it's OK to post links to other forums here. I've done the speed limiter change.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=669435

See the f25/f30 part. I found I only needed to do the first 2. The third was already set and the fourth wasn't in the instructions I followed.

I found this which is very helpful and will try some more coding later today.

You guys should have the limiter anyway if you have cruise control, I have it in mine.

Thanks for you help Paul, I think I've figured out what to do, just haven't quite got the bottle to do it! I didn't figure out how to make a backup of the car though.

Tr0y, I bottled out a few times but eventually tried and it is really quite straightforward if you follow the guides

To backup the CAF files you need to read the coding data first in Esys (Step 11 in "Getting Started Coding Part 1") then look in your Esys data folder. Mine is at C:\\ DATA\CAF on my laptop and look for files ending .ncd - copy these files to another place on your laptop for safe keeping.

Only March 2014 builds have the speed limiter from factory. I have coded it but never use it!

I used the limiter a lot, 50 mph constant speed cameras and 30 mph zones with police sitting behind me for 4 miles.....

It's very handy to just press the limit button, however it does not working going down hill.

It doesn't brake the car, it just stops the throttle from accelerating above the speed.

Cruise control with brake function is much more useful.

However at times using non active cruise is not that good or advisable.

The limit function gives you that ability to drive and brake around town or on the likes of the A 5 with its multitude of speed cameras lol.

Do you have them now Steve? They are in that bimmerpost link you posted.

I use the speed limiter everyday on the M25 going through the 50mph average zones. Traffic is too built up to use cruise control.

Yes thanks . I have coded the key to open/shut the boot with 1 press of the key rather than having to hold it to close.

I have also coded the boot release button (above the OBD socket) to close the boot with 1 press of the button as well as open with 1 press.

I've coded the following :-

Front fogs to come on with the welcome lights when unlocking the car
Digital speedo on the dash
Door LED's illuminate when in reverse
Front windows auto open/close when door is open
Changed iDrive start up animation
Video in motion enabled
Activated all the CODEC's so video from a USB stick now works in iDrive
Inbound mobile phone call plays phone ringtone
Changed gauges in Sport display from amber to red/silver
Changed BMW logo in black panel to M Performance
Changed mirror fold delay on remote open/close

The coding I really wish I could do (research indicates it may be impossible) is to turn on the white dash lights during the daytime (same as F10/11).

I tend to make 1 change at a time and activate and check rather than doing multiple changes. Each one worked first time without any errors.

I will see what else to code over the next few days.
