This is something I struggled with as well. As I played around w/ different configurations prior to ordering, I didn't keep it checked because I figured, I'm not paying ~$2600 for that. But as I finalized my configuration before sending to my dealer, I checked it (black interior, alpine white exterior).
$2600 is a lot of money, but IMO it helps differentiate the car vs. a standard 3er. It looks really good in pictures, going back and looking through the pics in UAEs thread is ultimately what swayed me (though I didn't have the nuts to go w/ orange interior). I plan to keep this car for a long time, I figured I might as well spec it exactly as I want it, and I could see myself regretting not getting the full leather. |

Still on the fence...I do love the full leather on my E39 M5, but after 10 years of compulsive maintenance in order to keep it looking new, I don't think I want TWO cars with full leather.

Am personally leaning towards extended rather than full. Just seems too pricey for what it is.
__ EDIT - just test drove an M4 (pretty sure I am the first US customer to do so - I am a lucky SOB I know) and I am now definitely opting for the full leather. Having seen it in person if you're at all on the fence then do it. Last edited by phear_me; 06-13-2014 at 04:14 PM.. |

I went full leather... sat in an M3 today with it and it just made the car look great inside. When I put my order in, I decided I couldn't go with anything else.

Had to do full... already paying for a premium car, might as well get premium additions. Personally, I'm the type that will regret it if I didn't get it/do it. And after a month, those extra bucks spent will be erased from memory, but the beautiful stitch accents on full leather will last.
Go full leather if you're even considering it. |

Do you really want to stare at the pebbly textured plastic shit for the next few years? I initially ordered it, and when I went to the auto show, they had a leather dash in one car, and plastic in the other. Needless to say, I changed my order the next day.

One needs to cover that crap as much as possible. Any leather must be better than that. Last edited by kinimod; 06-12-2014 at 05:47 PM.. |

I was pretty set on cloth as the more functional and radical choice. But reviews of how nice the Merino is changed my mind. I have extended black on order.

No one had taken a cloth delivery just yet. I'm sure they'll start piling up soon though.

Initially I wanted AW/Clothe but I ordered MW/Extended Black... 10 days ago I changed to AW/Full Sakhir. And it is my last word.

I went with extended. I'm already spending a ton on this car, it does look better but I didn't want to spend any more.

When I first spec'd the car, I went with alpine white, exec, 19", DCT. I didn't want to spend any more... but eventually, it turned into Mineral White... gotta have metallic! then M Adaptive suspension was added, because, well an M should have it, right? The rear sunshade - I've got kids and they will thank me for spending the extra $350. Then the LEDs, because dammit, they are pretty awesome. Then Full Leather since, its not just a 4 series, right? So that's almost $6000 I didn't want to spend...

I spent some time in an M4 tonight with full leather (..this person will reveal themselves soon enough). I was once a Full Leather non-believer, or rather.....from the camp that felt like it wasn't worth the extra money. After tonight however, I am dead set on Full Leather. Looking around the car, it really isn't just the dash, glove box and upper portions of the driver/passenger doors. The leather extends all the way back in the coupe (..which I didn't realize before). There is leather/contrast stitching along the sides near the rear windows; the entire panel is covered in leather. I previously thought it was only the portions around the speaker/rear armrest. It is actually really, really beautiful up close & personal, and it makes for a very nice environment for the driver or passenger. I was pleasantly surprised, and I'm glad that I was able to spend some time in a car with the full treatment.
...and as luck, fate or God's cruel humor would have it, I'm almost certain that I'm going to get a coupe now.....to the tune of $76k the way I have it optioned (..but I'm still considering ditching the Harmon Kardon). Last edited by Sedan_Clan; 06-15-2014 at 02:18 AM.. |
