Rear is questionable but could be changed since it's a concept i guess upper rear looks good, the swerves all the way down make it look weird

Exactly my thought as well! Hadid´s BMW Plant and Wolf Prix´BMW Welt must have influenced the design of this car. It´s awesome! Only thing is that the wheels look a bit too narrow for my liking. Especially the rears. But maybe it´s because the main focus of this concept was efficiency?

Thumbs up

This thing is too cool! Especially the frontlight and the kidney grilles are the best design I have ever seen, this is truly one of BMW's best looking concept car. Hope they use the frontlight on their future models, I love it.

I think the following insight provided by Scott 26 earlier in this thread is worth a revisiting. It's some info on how this concept car's design may translate into future BMW production models:

That is how far BMW are ahead.

As for other areas? Well the design is a hybrid of what is coming in future design trends for BMW. For instance the front of the car is highly reminiscient of the next generation 6er although with conventional shaped light units but the grille is almost identical , wide and stretching across the car.

The shape of the bonnet which is raised over the front wheel arches will be seen in the Z2 Roadster and Coupe as will a shape similar to the rear light unit of the VED. Concept although the lights will not be razor thin but more proportionate to the compactness of the car. And although they will not sit on the rear deck like the Concept they are pushed into the body work as if it was made of butter.

The shape itself if you shrink it down is highly identical to the previous unseen Z technik concept which is the predecessor to the Z2 Coupe. The interior and door cappings are conceptized from the 6er and the four up seating gives a clue to the 6er GT in terms of layout and space and that console that seperates the driver and the three passengers. If you look down from above , especially the rear deck where it splits if you imagine that as complete joined you will get an impression again of the Z2 it will have a typical BMW Z4 Coupe like rear window . The wheels although covered to assist with aerodynamics , if you remove the black covers you see a real sporty wheel for the next 6er it's a bit like a shuriken (throwing star for non-ninja members) But we will offer the aerodynamic wheels as an optional choice.

The technology and materials are not far off away. Closer than you think.
M Division will be the first to use aluminium chassis as well to really bring the weight down on our more core M models and of course our future "Compact" models as well as more emphasis on carbon fibre body panels.

A couple of questions:

1) Is the diesel packaged transversely in front of the rear axle? (I suspect so but it's not immediately apparent.) Looking at the cutaway drawing closely it is transversely mounted based on the orientation of the electric motor and transmission.

2) Part time AWD? Potentially FWD when only on electric propulsion? (Will both front and rear electric motors power the vehicle together, or is the rear electric motor merely supplemental?)

3) Did I miss the kW # for the battery pack? And the answer is 10.8 kW/h Also, what provisions are there to provide heating/cooling to the battery pack?

Granted this is 'only' a concept - but there are probably clues to the Project-i vehicles in this also?

FWIW, the thermoelectric generator utilizes something known as the Seebeck effect.

-front is very nice, blue lights gatta go
-rear is too busy
-side is average
-interior I don't like, way too futuristic (if they make it to production hopefully they'll fix interior)

overall very nice car

That's not completely clear, but I think so.

The rear layout alone (diesel engine, electric motor and DCT) is a full hybrid system. So it's an AWD when only on electric propulsion and an RWD when only on ICE propulsion.

According to the press release there's no active cooling needed.

Best regards,

Southlight - thank you!

A transverse drivetrain is new for BMW, AFAIK. Even the mid-engined M1 used a longitudinally mounted engine. That's why I think we're seeing some Project-i (dare we use the label, "i-Setta by BMW"? ; -) material here in addition to design and engineering approaches for future 'pure-BMW' vehicles.

I want this! But I'd prefer the family-van version with 16 seats, a high overview of the road and sliding doors on the sides... No, wait...those kind of ugly, fuel consuming cars already exist! Well, this will suffice for the moment...

It's really cool looking, now I know what to aim for in the future!

I'm telling you guys, buy BMW AG stock now. This company totally rocks.

Compare the ages of the designers, engineers and managers with the old fart yes-men running GM. And the ratio of white collar employees with engineering/tech Ph.Ds versus MBAs & JDs.

Wish I could pop over to Frankfurt, that is going to be fun to see in person.
