335 vs evo x???

I saw the new evo x today for the first time, and i didnt mind the look of it, but does it perform as well as the 335?

Last edited by palli7; 02-27-2008 at 12:30 AM.. Reason: put evo v instead of evo x

it would probably outperform in some ways. dont forget, the evo is the offspring of a proven rally car put on the street.

the evo x would beat the 335i in performance any day. it's made to be a performance car and the 335i isn't

if you say slap a procede on and it'll win

shiv is on the job for a procede for the evo to even the odds. in fact, they're already pushing about 400whp

LOL the question should be does the 335i perform as well as the Evo X. If you think the 335i is mod friendly, go research on the Evo X. That thing is even more responsive to mods than the Evo IX, which was already insanely good.

In acceleration from a rolling start the 335i will have the EVO X but things will be different from a standing start, here you will see a result similar to an M3 vs RS4, to start with the EVO will get the jump on the 335i but as the race progresses the 335i will eventually pull ahead.

Take the race to the back roads and within half a mile the EVO will be out of sight and by this I don't mean in your rear view mirror.

It looks pretty good, there is one at my local Mitsu dealership. But I would still prefer the 335 just for the respect they already have. Quality of ride and performance is much more than a simple 400hp 5spd car.

thats exactly what i think its not just the fact that the car can do one thing, id rather a car that can have an all around package rather then one that just stands out in one or two features

they've been 6spd since the Evo IX. They're just different cars... for the people who want to go fast, don't mind stiff suspension, want to have a car capable of tracking well right out of the dealer and the (used to be) not extremely wealthy. It's a matter of apples or oranges really. One day, you might crave it, and the next day, it might be gone.

Also, as a 19 year old who hasn't had the joy of owning a car that is insanely fast yet, I'm still going to grab something like it one day just because I've always wanted a rally car detuned for the road

Again, it's a totally different car. More mods, younger crowd, more attention from cops... the list goes on! Personally, i'd take an STI (cause i'm a Suby fanboy) over even the new M3s at this point because I want to know what it's like to own a car for the boy racer

Throw a procede V2, or a Jb2hhr with an LSD and see what happens since we are talking modded vs. modded. The 4g63 engine in the "older" evos are gone. there are alot more nannies in the Evo X. Who knows maybe they may have went the same route that BMW and nissan GTR did with their turbo cars and welded the Turbos to the manifold. If its that way then good luck for a long time and you better have some $$ around cause a turbo+turbo manifold isnt going to be cheap. just my $.02

Stock for stock, Evo wont be able to keep up on the highway/ higher speeds. From a standstill, its Evo's game all day. Once you start modding, the Evo will most likely be the quicker car... note "quicker", From a standstill, a chipped 335i vs a chipped Evo X, I'd say that almost a drivers race, advantage Evo X. lets just wait till there are more of these on the streets, so excited to see what it has to offer.. Remember though, the 335i is a Very fast luxury car, while the Evo X is an all out PERFORMANCE car.

335i=faster, but he'd "take us in the twisties", to use the infamous phrase oft. used on E46 forums.

Vishnu Evo X acceleration tests

Quote:
Hi folks,
The Inside Line (Edmunds.com on-line performance magazine) just tested our tuned Evo X. Probably shouldn't reveal all the testing numbers. But it's probably okay to spill the beans on acceleration. I don't have the the atmospheric corrected numbers, but according to memory, the quickest it actually ran was a 12.6@109.9mph. Best trap was just over 111mph. But the launch was weaker so the ET was slower.

Just a few things... launching this car was a problem. The factory ECU not only looks at clutch position but also vehicle speed to determine whether to active the 5000rpm launch limit. So there wasn't any quick and dirty fix at the time of testing. Disconnecting the clutch switch (a la Evo IX) didn't work. So it would bog off the line regardless of how it was driven. As a result, the best 0-60mph it could muster was a 4.7s. Once we defeat the launch nanny, we should be able to knock 0.3-0.4s off of that time and bring 1/4 mile ETA down to 12.2-12.3s range.

Still, as is, our ET and trap speed are still approximately 1sec and 10mph better than the last stock Evo X gsr they tested. So this gives a good idea of what kind of power the car is making with just our PROcede engine computer and 3" exhaust. More info to come but we'll probably just wait for the review to hit the net first. As always, the guys at The Inside Line/Edmunds were great to work with. They take their jobs very seriously. Also tested that same very day was the new v8 M3, 135i, Audi S6, and Mini Clubman. The M3 testing results are already up at (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...pageId=136231). Everything else should follow soon

Regards,
Dustin
Not bad...

I thought about trading my 335i in for one. At this point I have too much money invested, but I might pick one up as a second car. I've always been a big fan. Does anyone know when they'll be at dealerships?

yeah, all the aids in there work together as well as the human cells!

An example of how the evo might be with a hint of understeer would be like the STI, sad to say. STI does redeem itself in other features though

Check out this month's Automobile magazine and you'll get an idea. It has a comparo with the Evo X GSR, the WRX STi, and the 335xi. In a nutshell, they preferred the 335xi and it was faster than both cars in their acceleration tests. I don't have it with me right now, so I can't give much more info.

Depends on what you want. 335 by a mile for everyday use. The EVO is definitely a better track car out of the box.
