I was starting to warm to the F30, but seeing them side by side I prefer the E90 by a wide margin. I'll defer final subjective judgment until I see one in person at the Chicago Auto Show.

I think the E90 LCI is going to hold up very well against the F30. Look forward to that side by side.

This is not the drastic difference when comparing the E46 to the E90. That was a completely different looking car.

The F30 platform is a good replacement for the E90.

BMW does an excellent job at retaining its core stylistic characteristics thru out its model line ups.

the F30 is the natural evolution from the E90 as the E90 was a natural evolution from the E46 etc. If you look at the E36 / E46 and E90's. They all are still very good looking cars. This is why the 3'er is a leader in its segment. You do not have to worry about the cars looking extremely dated due to radical design changes in the new gen models.

"cough cough - Audi and Mercs"

Good job BMW!

just curious, would someone with PS skill slap the 162 rim onto the F30?

both cars are nice looking (I liked the f30 rear and cleaner side profile without the side marker light and amber corner).

E90 still looks great. If they compared the F30 to E90 330/335i sport with xenons, it would look even better. Not to mention the facelifted version 09 and up.

I'm still on the fence about the f30 -- admittedly I was this way then the e90 first came out. I just can't get past the droopiness of the headlights. They just don't look right in conjunction with the rest of the car. Otherwise, I think the f30 looks good.

After seeing both cars put side by side, to a person that knows nothing about BMW, I don't think they can tell which car is newer

But to me, it looks like the F30 is more of a transformation from the E46, especially the front view

The f30 looks so much better than the e90 - more sporty, more athletic, more aggressive. And if the interior is compared in pictures, then the betterment is even more evident.

BMW did a good job with the evolution of the 3er. Now they just need to sort out the stand alone options *cough* xenons *cough* on 328 *cough*.

thanks for the nice pics.

F30>>>>E90.

Never could put my finger on where the e90 falls short, but those pics just magnify it.

F30 is great, But E90 is more muscular, more tighter looking.

This just cements my opinion that the e90 is a far more handsome car than the f30.

F30 nose design is far too fussy and the rear end too bland.

The profile view of that nose is hideous.

But for the front grill and lights, the e9x still looks very fresh.

I was thinking the same. An LCI E90 on stock suspension in a similar color to the F30 would be much better.

Just not feeling the front end of the F30.....however, a few turbos, quad pipes, big wheels and flared arches may convince me................

F30 def takes the cake on looks. I never lreallyiked the e90, the F30 seems to do a better job giving the 4 doors a more sporty look the old couples offered.

The E90 really still looks pretty fresh. If I had never seen the E90 before, I couldn't tell which car is newer or more modern (talking about the exterior).

I agree that the comparison would be better if it would be an LCI E90 (and with xenon front lights instead of the halogens).

LOL, exactly. Could they have possibly picked a more lame car? A 325i?

Put a LCI 335i E90 next to it. The differences are minor. But that won't make the front page though.

This is not like the E46 to E90. Those cars were drastically different.
