..::PSI::.. M4 Aggressive Wheel Fitment Test

With the arrival of our Sakhir Orange M4, the new shop car was finally in our hands last night, and we were anxious to test various wheels we had around the shop.

We quickly grabbed a set of the newly-released Volk Racing Hyper Bronze TE37 SLs, which were set aside for one of our personal project cars.

Offsets:

Front 19" x 9.5" - ET 21
Rear 19" x 10.5" - ET 22

These offsets were very aggressive, and based on what we knew at the time, were a 50/50 shot of fitting with no rubbing or modifications.

This data has since been sent to RAYS for further wheel development for the F8x community, so stay tuned for further updates about new fitment releases.

Below is what we learned about wheel fitment on the F82 M4 chassis.

M4 arrival.

Shot of the Volk Racing TE37 SL in Hyper Bronze:

Once the stock wheels were off, we surveyed the clearances of the brakes, inner fenders and suspension location, quickly realizing the massive room available for adding wider and larger wheels.

Test fitting the rear wheel offset (19" x 10.5" - ET 22):

Once the rear was fitted and the car was brought down, we could see just how close the fitment was to the outer fender, but keep in mind that the wheels do camber in under the weight of the chassis.

We ultimately decided to mount the Volks with the OEM tires as this would be a popular option for new owners looking to utilize their stock rubber.

In waiting for the Volks:

Rear TE37 SL with OEM tire (Michelin Pilot Super Sport 275/35ZR19):

Car just lowered off the lift after H&R springs installed and wheels fitted:

Shot of the front wheel on the ground with the OEM tire (Michelin Pilot Super Sport 255/35ZR19):

There is room to grow in the front offset and tire size. We are going to move to a higher sidewall and wider tire to better match the aesthetics of the rear. A small front spacer could even be added as well.

Once the car had settled we went out for a 10 mile spirited drive on less than ideal roads and can confirm that there is absolutely no rubbing whatsoever even on almost full suspension compression. Note that these were still what most would consider "normal" driving roads - we can't speak for massive bumps or aggressive track driving as of yet with this configuration.

Completed shot from last night.

We plan to have several different wheels in various sizes and fitments installed shortly, so stay tuned for updates as they develop!

You guys seem to have a more aggressive fitment than IND had.
I'd probably prefer a little less aggressive offset in back, and a little more aggressive offset up front.

Wheels look great. Thanks.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Does the car has adaptive suspension and how does it feel with the 435i h&r springs? I ordered 9.5 et22 front and 10.5 et35 rear, so I need to add 5mm or 10mm spacer to the rear for a good fitment?

The suspension is stiff, but you can still tell the difference in each mode as the car does have adaptive suspension.

The fitment is tire dependent as much as the offset. I would mount the wheel + tire and then measure from there.

Here are some other pics of front/side, I will be adding a taller/wider front tire to match the look of the rear.

I have put 150 miles on the car with this setup and it has been great.

Great to know there is more room under there for larger wheels/tires.
Did you guys take note if there was any brake duct cooling upfront? ...Hoping BMW did not completely overlook this as they did on the e92

This is ONLY testing out the max fitment of the stock M4 for wheel width and tire sizing. This is just one of 20 or so options we were working on, more info to come later.

That's nice to hear. I will try the stock size firstly, I got et22 9.5 front and et35 10.5 rear, so looking on your te37sl fitment thinking of adding 5mm spacer to the rear ones.

That'll work depending on the tires, those are a huge factor.

Interested to hear if it rubs with same offsets, but with 275/35-front and 295/35-rear.

Tnx, now I ordered the stock size tires.
Will the 275/30 tires work on your te37sl front wheels with no rubbing?
