I figured it would have a better top end.

since our speedos are all slow by 3-4mph, are the official 0-60 times based off indicated speed or actual?

always wondered that too about mag reviews, they go by indicated or GPS?

From CAD:

Quote:
The backbone of our testing program, and also our newest piece of equipment, is the Racelogic VBOX data logger, measuring equipment that can fit in a briefcase. After a lengthy trial period, the head office ponied up for three of the $10,000 systems.

The VBOX can record speed, distance, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, and position. We use it to record acceleration, braking, and top speed.

The VBOX communicates with the U.S. government's global positioning system, a constellation of 24 satellites that orbit the earth 10,600 miles overhead. At least four of the satellites are above the horizon at all times, and each sends a carrier signal that is picked up by the VBOX's antenna (a small magnetic unit that you affix to a test vehicle's roof). As a vehicle travels, it draws nearer to some satellites and farther from others. As this happens, the frequency of the carrier signal shifts minutely. The VBOX senses this frequency shift, which is also known as the Doppler effect, and calculates the velocity, acceleration, and distance traveled.

# of turbos mean nothing. Getting power to the ground is the only thing that matters in 0-60 times. Take for example the new challenger... They do a twin turbo kit on it, and make an extra 240-300 whp and only crank a few tenths off of the 0-60 times.

A nice launch control (using boost) and some sticky tires will do wonders.

I'm sure the TT may be slightly faster to 60, but after 60mph, I bet the N55 would put a hurtin on the N54. More top end power with a single turbo.

Who gives a crap about 0-60? It's all about how the driver launches the car and how much grip he has due to tires...

+1.. I've only had mine since Saturday, but it definitely feels like it has better throttle response/torque on the low end.

I've only broke 1290kms!
The dealer told me 2000kms before you jump on it!
Well today i was on the bann and could not resist!
It pulls very well all the way! 252kms and the limiter said thats it.

I must say I am impressed with this Car!

gt500kr does 0-60 in 4.9
no doubt its faster than a 335i, but it burns rubber all through the first 2 gears resulting in an embarrassing 0-60 for an 82k car.

Some BMW speedos are slow, some are not - it varies from car to car. The two I currently own are accurate to within 1% at 60 mph.

Years ago, Road & Track used to publish speedo error as part of their usual dataset, which indicates that they use corrected speeds, not indicated. Motorcycle Consumer News still lists speedo accuracy in it's bike tests (the average seems to be about 5~8% slow).

My GPS reads slower than my Speedo.
Next time I test them I will set cruise at 60mph and 100mph then check the GPS to that!!

I ran three test runs with cruise on!

Speedo GPS
100kms 95kms
160kms 154kms
220kms 214kms

GPS is a Garmin Navi
My top speed yet 252kms on GPS and 259-260kms on speedo!

Hope this helps you guys that cant run at that speed for any distance.
BTW: if anyone wants any high speed ie: (RPM's, fuelburn) stats on a fully stock x drive give me a shout!!!

The reason I believe that it would be slower than the N54 engine is that it loses a turbo and it increases mpg (fuel economy) by like 2 mpgs (i think). Usually when that happens that means a decrease in performance somehow.

Again this is just my guess and I would be VERY happy to know if the 2011 335i has the same 0 to 60 as the 2010.

Real street driven test data would be nice.
How you people can feel .1 or .2 seconds on your butt dyno is amazing!
Just about every year Porsche (and many others)increases horsepower and creates better fuel economy. Better fuel economy doesnt necessarily mean decreased performance.

They compare S4 to 335 because the xdrive doesnt even compare to Quattro. S4 also has sport suspension and x drive rides on 18" rft, sits higher on softer suspension. Not a fair fight.

I raced a 135i stock for stock and I beat it in the Z4 by about a car.

both DCT

I weigh more than that driver though, by about 70 lbs.

After the JB3, I killed him...

So... I'm assuming the N55 would be slower then
