Automatic High Beams - Dead?

Hi guys,

I drive my car at night a lot because of work so the Automatic High Beams option, which i payed extra for in my MY 2013, was very useful; however, it stopped working a couple of days ago out of nowhere!

Have you guys experienced this issue if you have the Automatic High Beam option or am i the first unlucky one?

Were there street lamps in your highway or side street that were part of your commute?

hold your hand over the sensor and see if that turns them on (the sensor under your rear view mirror)

Thanks for the replies and the tips guys but yeah, since i use that feature almost every day, i learned all these tricks lol!

It's my fault i should have been more specific:

A lot of times just putting my hand in front of the sensor would do the trick; however, what is different now is that the little green light on the dashboard which indicates that i have the AHB on, does not turn on anymore! So it's like it does not get activated anymore

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but you do have the main headlight switch in the auto "A" position (i.e. to the left) don't you? If I remember correctly AHB only works with the switch in that position.

Beat me to it. Sounds silly, but make sure the lights are in the auto position so they come on at dusk/night on their own. I believe that is what the green indicator is that you're speaking of (there are two one on the lower left and one in the middle - lower left is auto headlinghts and middle is auto high beams with the "a").

Then you have to turn the auto high beams on (I dont think it has a 'remember the last setting' for the auto high beams)

HBAssist is potentially availbale when both headlight switch is in "A" position AND lights are turned ON (due to low environmental light condition). Only then you can activate HBAssist manually (Switch ON with steering wheel switch). In case sufficient environmental light (driving through tunnel or so) the Auto lights turn off which consequentially RESETS the HBAssist. You have to turn it on manually again when lights turn ON. Also daylight changes in this period of year, so there are less conditions where HBAssist is needed; this can be erronuously regarded as a failure.
Now one year driving and still impressed !!
