Sadly, I must agree with him. With the exception of the E39, the 3 series is the only car that's consistently been better than its competition, IMO. None of their other cars over the year have made me say "oooh ahhhh, this is better than anything else"

WHO CARES. You can beat the topic to death, if you have worked on cars, or are familiar with them, you can see why they are more superior than many competitors.

imo, out of the german cars, if i wanted an insanely fast speedboat with status, i'd buy a Merc... if i wanted a lush "stylish'" car i'd but an Audi... but instead i'd prefer to take a bmw purely for the driving experience it offers.

I know many would beg to differ, but that would be your opinion and this is mine...

I never had i Drive until my current car and always wondered what the fuss was all about and the complaints. If you can't figure it out within a day you're a moron and shouldn't be using technology, bottom line. What do you even have to use it for besides setting nav anymore anyways? I do to a certain extent think some BMW models are overrated (X3, 7 series and to a certain extent the 6). Not every model is going to be perfect, but generally speaking they stack up pretty well against the competition.

I used to think so, but now owning an m5 I have to say BMW has impressed me in many ways. Sometimes I just wish they made an all out sports car.

^^ Agree completely. Other than the 3 coupe (not even sedan since it's so butt ugly), i would not consider any bmws anyways. Mercedes has always had the other catagories covered such as E and S class.

X6 is just down right dumb

oh man and dont get me started on I-drive. down right dumb design. if one ever been in a Lexus or Acura, you know what a real good GPS/control pannel is supposed to be like.

of course, the gagets don't make a car.. BMW makes great "drivng" cars, but other than that.. design (ext, int), reliability, and tech-gizmos really isn't their strong point. let the japanese handle the electronics..

Is BMW overrated? That all depends on who's doing the rating, and what their rating is. A reviewer that gives a BMW a bad rating (e.g. JC doesn't particularly like the 3er, but loves the 1er) certainly can't be said to be overrating the brand. The problem is that even in the presence of somewhat objective tests (material quality, performance, reliability [as in MTBF], etc), the emphasis a reviewer may place on a particular test/category may be subjectively disproportionate.
