Which car is best for a 16 year old? Please vote in the poll.

There all rear wheel drive bimmers. I wouldn't give a 16 year old anything over 300hp for his first rwd car. I picked e39 530i.

The car is big enough for him and his friends. Safe enough god forbid anything was to happen. And not powerful enough for him to get wreckless even though you can get wreckless in ANY car. Hope that helps.

I personally think you are just a little nuts!

What you want is a big safe car with lots of crumple zones and a low Hp engine. You don't need to buy your son/daughter a M car! What you should be looking at is an e46 325i or an e39 528i. And be prepared for the minor bang here and there - on the car too. Because it will happen. I would avoid a high Hp car until later on in his driving career.

Since I am sure you (and your son/daughter) are car nuts - you should also look into a teenage driving school. A driving course that offers skid car controll techniques. The first accident your son/daughter avoid will be worth the cost of the school. You might even look into BMWs own run school at the Perf center. Could be a good experience for both of you.

How is the reliability on a 01-03 530i? I want to get a newer car since they are more reliable, although i had an 03 330i 7 years ago and it was reliable back then...but then again it was new.

A Jetta TDI, I learned on that and it was the perfect car for a teenager. Slow, ridiculous gas mileage, decent interior/stereo, didn't attract attention from cops and ridiculously forgivable in many respects. Also wasn't too expensive. From that list though, definitely the 330.

i never had a beater and even now i feel like i missed out on something, get him/her something cheap, i believe kids should be able to mod their cars, scratch them, damage them and let them buy it or pay to fix it, even if you pay him to do stuff around the house.

I picked the Z4 coupe. My reasoning, it's a two seater, so they won't have a car full of friends. Let's face it, even the most responsible 16 year old still listens to stupid suggestions from their friends.

I'm guessing this is for your kid? if so I would make him pay half of the car, and tell him whatever car he wants after explaining each car to him.

"kids" deserve just as much respect as adults. what adult do you know that actually acts like an adult is suppose to? also have to take into account each kid, as each is different.

let him make choices ( which life is all about choices ) and let him deal with consequences ( which comes after making a choice ) .

I've seen the stupid crap my friends pull in their 528i's and have decided thats as much power as I'd want someone that age having. I'm only 21 too if that puts it into perspective lol
