My Windows 7, 64-bit, 8GB RAM, SSD is processing 30MB RAW files in 4 to 10-sec. On my prior 32-bit system the same files were taking 1 to 2-minutes each. Windows 7, 64-bit has been very stable and fast in all applications.

enjoy.... The show i mean, not the raping and mugging...

have you been to the detroit show before? it's in an alright area.

I like the Toronto show better, seems to be better selection of cars displayed.

thanks. yeah, I've been there from '02-'06. Since then I haven't been able to make it. I hope it's not insanely crowded, but who knows... weather is nice, albeit a bit cold, and it's opening weekend.

For those of you with a Canon EF system and a Sony NEX...

http://conurus.com/sony

It's the first EF lens adaptor for the NEX that actually allows you to automatically control the aperture. Supposedly works with the IS lenses as well.

Keeping capatibility with legacy lenses will assure a fast transition for many pros as the technology matures in the very near future.

It'll be interesting to watch... and participate.

Good article about super-tele lens, various sensor sizes and pixel-densities and how it all interacts in real life photography of distant subjects. What is "reach"?

well, my new laptop flies... the SSD is insanely quick. I did some benchmarks before and after, but I haven't gotten around to analyzing it yet. I'll post it up when I'm done.

So, who will be the first to shoot at ISO 204,800?

By the way, anyone want to buy a D3 for $3,000? I'll cover the remaining $3,000 for the new D4.....

I have a question for you pros. Why is it that when I shoot in auto mode the exposure appears to be better than when I shoot in manual? I emulate the shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure bias, etc., but my pictures are almost always darker than when I shoot in auto.

I've recently switched to using the presets for shooting since the photos look better without having to resort to post processing.

Auto will change the exposure values (contrast, saturation, color, sharpness and others). Where manual will not.
Shoot the green box and your pictures will be fine but might as well bought a good point and shoot. All the buttons and dials help give you finer control over the image and if set correctly will give you the same results as auto, it is more than just shutter speed and aperture.

A comparison would be Canons 18-55 kit lens and the 17-55 F2.8 lens, at the same F stop, focal length and speed the images are different. It is the other things that come into play.
