Upgraded Audio System in my 135i

Finally splurged on an upgrade to my hi-fi system in my 2009 135i. Went with a custom built enclosure for the trunk with matching carpeting. 12" JL sub, JL amp, with Hertz speakers up front. I'm a musician so I know music and sound, but the technical stuff of these systems is beyond me... don't really know if I got ripped off or not. Attached is the bill with part numbers/prices, and a pic of the sub enclosure. Let me know your thoughts. Keep in mind there is window tinting in this bill too, and the bulk was the labor to build the fiberglass enclosure. Love the sound up front so far, but the sub may need a little tweaking or something, it's not as tight and punchy as I'd like. Don't really know how all that works...

what the fuck took 16.5 hours of installation?

that custom box is like 300-400 from a forum member here.

the install is about a 2-3hour install. you got super super super fucking ripped off for 2 speakers and a 12" sub.

you should have spent 600~ on a proper 10" sub/amp/enclosure setup if you wanted it to punch clean and have higher sound quality. you should have come out of the whole thing for under 1500 even with spending 800 bucks on front speakers

i just want to add if nothing else, you paid over 100 dollars for rca cables. wow.

They squeezed 6.5s in the front and back? Curious to the see the install as the mids are 4" stock.

They fucked u over, do u kno how much mechanical work could be done in 16 hours, so certainly not for that audio equipment. Always have someone with you that's informative of these things if ur not sure..

They used nice equipment. The prices are high though.. I paid $379 for the same amp from my audio shop.

I feel sorry for the OP. Clearly had he come here first, the community would have steered him to a solution with a higher cost/benefit ratio. But wow, we are a direct-talking bunch!!

About your tight and punchy bass issue.

If you wanted tight and punchy you should have went with a 10w3-2 instead of a 12w3-4

Your XD 700/5 is only giving 180 watts to your 12w3-4 that can handle 500 Watts.
it would give feed your sub 300 watts if you had a 2 OHM speaker. If you look at the specs for the amp it tells you how many watts it would supply to 2ohm, 3ohm, and 4ohm subs.

A 10w3 would have tighter base response because the woofer isn't moving as much air and can stabilize faster in between hits. And a 2 Ohm version ( 10w3-2 ) would get more power from your amp so you will get more punch.

Im no expert and i dont even have my own system yet. I want one badly though. ive been doing my research and planning and scheming to figure out what im going to end up with which is how i am able to answer your question. Oh and i happen to be a pianist

Cheers

where did they put the bass control knob? I'm always curious about this because I can't find a place that makes a lot of sense
