I saw a white M1 in 1983 or 1984 when I was 10 yrs old. The owner was a wealthy man who owned a collection of about 10 exotics and was picking up his kid at my school. Each day I saw a different car.

I remember seeing the M1 a few times. In one instance the engine was idling and the engine was opened up. I saw the red stacks...

Automotive enthusiasm began at an early age for me. I actually had a car magazine at age 8, which I had already destroyed from so many readings by the time I saw the M1 in the flesh, and the M1 was included in that issue along with an article on a Ferrari 250 LM and a review on a 1982 911. I recall the M1 article being nearly absurd.

Great car...

Back in the late 80's I had an apartment on Gough Street in San Francisco. The owner of Howard Tire now Wheel Works S.F. had a black M1 with gold BBS rims. Almost every day I would hear him driving by - revs up. Could almost set my clock by it. Those cars scream especially at WOT.

Auto Enthusiasm starts at an early age. My son is 4 years old and can accurately pick out most auto makes/models on the street and/or in magazines. He shames most adults - they are bugged out by it. He is also very adept at Forza and GT6. I'm in trouble LOL

There is at least one (Red) in the Dallas area. The owner actually brought it out to Cars and Coffee a few months back. I couldn't believe my eyes. The only one I had ever seen prior to that was at the BMW Museum in Munich. Really nice fellow, says he drives it all over the country. I'll see if I can post a pic of it later.

Great video.

It sounds like BMW was trying to recapture the sound of the M1 in the interior of the i8.

I wonder how both of these sound in person, directly compared to one another.
