Talking Roadtrip in a 330xd

I am new to the forum having just purchased a new-to-me BMW 330xd E91.

After looking at many different versions, I choose a silver/beige 2007 model with a manual gearbox and FBMWSH at 136k KMs. I was not really interested in the fact that it had comfort access, voice control, navigation, 6-cd autochanger, auto lights and wipers or adaptive cruise control as these were not features I had ever had before. However, after a 2,500 KM holiday in Provence I can tell you they are amazing things!

I have never driven a car that is so effortless -- cruising at 130km/h on the autoroute -- returning 38.2 mpg -- and running for 900 kms or so on a tank of fuel. It is extremely comfortable for two people, two bikes and all the kit we needed. It also has the panorama roof so if we felt like some sun we could just crank the roof and enjoy the breeze.

Looking forward to adding another 100,000 kms to the car.

Roadtrip in a 330xd

Following up on the post earlier, the 300xd continues to go strong. Now it has 152k KMs on the clock after trips to Germany, Italy, Austria, France, UK, Belgium and Czech Republic. I love driving it long-distance.

Maintenance so far:

* New battery at 146k
* Comfort access control module replaced as previous was corroded and stopped working
* One sidelight bulb

Coming up in the next 12 months will be at least 4 new winter tyres and possibly 4 summer tyres next year -- could be expensive to have replace all 8 within one year. And there is a small crack in the windshield from a stone on a highway near Prague earlier this year.

I am trying to keep the car in top condition. Have just bought replacement footmats as the beige interior mats pick up dirt. Also, two of the four style 162 wheels are curbed. There are some small rust spots on the piano black trim on the b-pillars. More worringly signs of corrosion on the bottom edge of the drivers' door, starting in the seam on the inside and curling around to the front edge... in a sense surprising but given Swiss winters i guess not so bad.

Any tips on what to look at on a 6-year old E91 to keep it in good shape?

and do you feel a strong torque when asking for ?

what's your feeling with those 3.0L ?

I have a 320d remapped at 425Nm and it goes very well with so much torque. So i ask myself how's the feeling ?

I am considering buying a second hand 330xi or xi for the winter, pre-LCI models slowly start to become affordable for a quick buy

All i can say is that if you have that option as a winter car, then lucky you!

My only experience with the 20d engine has been in an X1. The 330xd is certainly more a touring car but it has tremendous pick-up and strong torque (something like 500n/m at 1700 rpm or so...) You never really need go above 2500 rpms in everyday.

thanks.
yep but for the oment that's just an idea, i ma not sure to do it. i will see that this 2014 spring.

did you see that some guys have remapped their 330xd to go up to 750Nm (great torque, but with keeping in the idea not to go too far, to let the engine/clutch stay alive for a while) ?
