Vorsteiner GTRS4 Widebody to be Unveiled at SEMA
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Vorsteiner shared with us exclusive images inside their design studio in Orange County, California. Their GTRS4 project shows their dedication and what it takes to create an original design from the ground up. It's extremely unique to see an aftermarket company spend countless hours in the design process with using clay modeling, only seen by the best OEM manufacturers. Enjoy this update as Vorsteiner releases more images to us, this is just the first part of their design and development for the GTRS4 F82 M4. Additional finalized & painted photos will be sent to us this Thursday! 1. 3D Scanning Scanning using a 5-axis 3D scanner with Blue Light Technology. The vehicle is scanned using a 5-axis scanner along with a 3D alias software in conjunction with blue-light laser scanning technology and digitized. Circular targets are also placed strategically below panels ensuring an OEM fit using existing factory hardware. 2. Clay Modeling The clay modeling begins! Using automotive modeling foam and the highest quality industrial plasticine, we begin shaping the rear quarter panel, moving toward the rear end. Vorsteiner's in-house master craftsmen with over 10 years of experience carve, shape and chisel the clay to it's final shape. A specialized heater ensure clay is malleable throughout the weeks of modeling. Specialized modeling foam ensures that the shape remains relatively light preventing any sagging or sliding. Modeling the entire vehicle using nothing but a rendering on a sheet of paper! The basic concept of the rear quarter panel is created. Dozens of corrections are made during this stage to ensure the panel flows with the rest of the vehicle's leading edges. Adjusting the radius for the 50th time, yet still not finalized. Seeing the excess clay removed from the vehicle was surprisingly beautiful. 3. Clay Modeling Continued: Rear bumper shaped in conjunction with the rear diffuser and over fenders. Shaping the fender and bumper separation for the final clay modeling stage. 4. Beginning the Molds: Prepping for the messy part... 5. Cutting and closing: Now the scary part begins... drawing the line to cut the rear quarter panels. A critical step to fit the massive 20x13.5 wheels with 345 Pirelli tires. Sanding off the paint to allow for adequate bonding. Fiberglass applied to close up the open quarter panel. Working on the rear quarter panel flange for a seamless fit rather than screws or rivets. 6. Installation and testing: Molding the quarter panel to the car CNC rapid prototype fitted And shaped with the existing M4 side vents Measuring the wheel fitment to maximize inner and outer clearances: 20x13.5 wheel cut yet unfinished. Mounted with 345 Pirelli's for test fitting before brushing and powder coating. Via Vorsteiner Release: The Special Edition GTRS4 World Premiere Vorsteiner is celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year and to commemorate this occasion we have developed a very special limited edition vehicle, code named GTRS4 debuting at the 2014 SEMA Show. The GTRS4 is a full lightweight carbon composite wide body conversion that is based on the 2015 BMW M4 coupe. The design and development of the GTRS4 started early this year as there were countless hours of testing and modeling that took place. Design of an Icon: The idea was first conceived on a blank sheet of paper where our designers took into the consideration the previous historical wide body editions such as GTRS3 based on the E92 M3, to show a lineage in both Vorsteiner design language, functionality and performance. Our designers focused making the design organic to the original body lines of the car while retaining full functionality & everyday drivability of the vehicle. It was not enough just to make the widest possible fender as it was also dictated by the ability of the wheel to turn while under load at high or low speeds. We also wanted to ensure the design paid tribute to M3 racing heritage and lineage while still maintaining the minimalistic Vorsteiner concept, The Beginning of a Legend: Once the design was sketched and finalized on paper we 3D scanned the entire factory body using Blue Light Laser Technology. With our 3D renderings, we digitally surfaced the new body panels and created CNC rapid prototypes to fit on the vehicle. The most crucial step was the rear quarter panels as it was very important to create a perfect contour. In order to effectively create, readjust and improve this shape, our in-house master craftsmen utilized traditional clay modeling to achieve seamless and fluid proportions. Form Follows Function: From the original launch of the development process, our design and engineering team worked in tandem to ensure the wider fenders and wheels were functional. We strategically crafted air ducts for optimal cooling towards the front brakes, while paying attention to aerodynamic ventilation for the inbound air to exit. The front fenders have a total span of 4 inches while the rear quarter panels sit 7 inches wider than it’s original form. We’ve specially designed 3-Piece Forged wheels in 20x10.5J and 20x13.5J respectively to fit the 275 and 345 width tires. The vehicle is also fitted with Pirelli’s signature P Nero tires for optimal traction and performance. To add to the stance, our GTRS4 features KW Suspension’s sleeve kit allowing for height adjustment as well as keeping the original BMW Dynamic Drive features. Adding to the performance, simplicity, and versatility, the GTRS4 is upgraded using ESS Tuning’s E-Tronic for an impressive 550hp to the crank. The Special Edition GTRS4 Package Includes: · Carbon Fiber Front Bumper with an Integrated Front Splitter Element · Carbon Fiber Wide Front Fenders with Ventilation (2 inches wider each side) · Carbon Fiber Aero Side Blade Elements · Carbon Fiber Wide Rear Fenders (3.5 inches wider each side) · Carbon Fiber Rear Bumper with an Integrated Rear Diffuser Element · Vorsteiner 90mm Quad Exhaust Tip Finishers (Options: Brushed | Diamond Black) · Vorsteiner Embroidered Colored Floor & Trunk Mat Set · Vorsteiner Chrome Trunk Badging · GTRS4 Forged 3-Piece Wheels, 20x10.5J | 20x13.5J in Gloss Brushed Shadow Technology Partners: · Pirelli Tires · KW Suspension · Meguiar’s · Brembo | Race Technologies · ESS Tuning · KI Studios · Gold & Co. London Original post: Vorsteiner just informed us that they will be unveiling their newest wide body creation to celebrate 10 years of inspiration in the industry. This will be a culmination of their innovative design processes and in-house techniques to deliver only the best quality components available. They will be unveiling the car at their SEMA booth next month at 1:15pm on Tuesday, November 4th at their official press conference. I hope that some of you guys can make it to SEMA to check it out in the flesh. The car will also have one of the worlds first 405mm Brembo big brake kit as well. I'd love to go to SEMA and what's funny is I'll be in Vegas at the same time as the show but I guess it's not open to the public! Such BS!
