Robbing spectators? AWD looks just as good as RWD as far as I can tell in WRC. If anything, drivers are more willing to take risks in AWD then RWD.

If you had ever driven both on a forest stage then you would know that the awd is by far the quicker more exciting to drive and watch, the speed and angle at which the car can to recovered is mind blowing.

RWD is as useless in rallying as hog-nail boots would be in a 100m dash.

Very heavy steel toe capped boots, try winning a sprinting race in a pair of them.

Hope this help explains what I mean.

Real men rally RWD

I had the chance in the 70's to passenger in Stig Blomquist's when he was in Canada to drive a couple of rally's in a Saab99 as I worked at the shop that prepared the Saab and a TR8 for British Leyland for the Canadian rally championship. It was a great summer job when I was in school.
We trundled off to a local area to do some testing with Stig and they decided that I should be in the car as I was about the same weight as his co-driver and that is something that I will never forget as long as I live.It was a 5 km deadend road with lots of jumps and slippery as all getup. The car control that I witnessed that day with Stig left braking and clutchless shifting was just amazing! From that day,I was totaly convinced that the best race drivers in the world are rally drivers.

You are preaching to the converted, I have always said as much.

The only thing I will add is go to a driving shool which can give you the experience of both rwd and awd, hack if it has fwd cars as well all the better. I bet, no I know that you will come away from that experience with a totally different opinion on not only awd cars but fwd as well. The sheer fun to be had with awd on a slippery surface to incredible and you will be doing things with a car that you wouldn't have thought possible.

In fact I doubt you will come away with the thought that for rallying at least rwd is that entertaining. All that sliding seems to get you nowhere.

With the 5 months of winter that we have in Canada, you learn from an early age of how well you can motor in the white stuff with a properly setup FWD or AWD auto.I can remember going to a friends cottage with my F150 and 32ft of snowmobile trailer behind and staying on his ass and he was in a E55 with snows and driving it quite well in the snow.I hate to admit it but maybe there might be an RS5 in my future

Here is a video that we filmed a for Snowtrax TV.I give the trucks to them as sponsorship.
