Is it possible to go from having an iDrive to not having one?

The topic sounds a bit broad, so simply put... I have a 2007 335i Coupe that came with iDrive. It's taken a sh*t on me in recent weeks. The CCC unit I believe from what I'm being told. My question is... Can I just purchase the unit from a non-iDrive 2007 and take out the CD/DVD drive and swap them without removing the other pieces of the dashboard?
I'm only 20 years old, I may have jumped the gun with buying this car, with a lot of research being left out prior. I made a bad purchase in terms of which 335i I decided to drive home. So the cheapest job for the time being is what's best until I get my taxes back.
If anybody has any serious suggestions/help it would be GREATLY appreciated. Trying to get my tunes back. Can't stand driving in silence.

Do you want to remove the idrive setup complete ? The dashboards are completely different...Why not upgrade to the newer CIC setup or even NBT. Both of which, are better than the CCC setup and still retain the factory dash setup.

I want to retain the dashboard for the time being. I'm just wondering if I can purchase this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-3-SERIES...db2567&vxp=mtr
and have it fit. It doesn't need to be perfect, I just need to be able to use my speakers. I have the upgraded soun package and it's deemed useless now and I feel like I've got money wasted. I've got only like $500 to spare for the time being until later in 2015.

Sure you can physically fit that radio, into the vehicle but it not plug and play. Nor will it even mount to the dash. It needs to be coded to your vehicle, and even then I don't believe it wont work since your V.O doesn't match the radio configurations. If moneys tight, just get a new CCC unit on here. I'm sure theirs a few laying around someone is itching to get rid of for cheap.

I wanna replace the current CD/DVD drives with the OEM one from a non-iDrive based vehicle. I didn't expect to have plug and play, but I do expect it to work, how else would people be doing upgrades to other units? The CCC unit is still about $400, plus I need a new knob $150, and then to find somebody to code would be maybe another 50-100. Where as this unit would be only $100ish plus some coding for a few bucks. About half the cost roughly.
I'm just trying to get some opinions and hopefully come across somebody else who has encountered a similar problem. I'd be unhooking all of the iDrive units and deeming them useless, but not fully removing them. the only part being removed would be the CD drives with the fried CCC unit and putting in a different CD drive from an alternate setup. In logic, that should work...

Do you have the pre 03/07 idrive or the later ccc idrive with the presets? This is the older one

I have the one without the presets. Just 2 slots for discs.

Ah okay, I have a newer one for cheap but probably wouldn't be worth your trouble. If you get a base radio I can code it for you. It won't fit perfect in the ccc slot.

you'll need to to take out the bracket that holds the unit in. then purchase a bracket for the headunit.. You will have a sort of gap of about 1.5".. The radio wwill fit snug then.. Bracket is about $30. make it look at least more oemish with the faceplate for the radio cover up the holes below etc... like what was said, if you can find a headunit from a L7 system car then it should be plug and play. with coding of course.

That's like music to my ears I definitely do plan to make it all snug and beautiful as best I can. I don't want it to be an eye sore, I mean afterall, I'm the one who has to see it from day to day. I'll try to hunt down a bracket and some face pieces. Thanks for the encouraging words haha

It's going to cost more in the long un to install mismatching parts today. If you are short on cash, well, yes, you have jumped the guns, but that's not a helpful comment at this point, so my advice is just wait until you have the cash to get the appropriate replacement parts.

I only really need 3 small things. A used, working CD drive unit that's non-iDrive ($100-200 from what I've seen) a bracket from what I've just been told ($30-50) and a plastic center console piece to remove the iDrive button (Maybe $30-50 as well. Opposed to needing a new CCC unit ($400 used) and a controller ($150-200) plus coding for both, maybe $50? I haven't looked for coding prices just yet. But so far, getting rid of the iDrive is cheaper. Eventually I'll hit up a junk yard and rip out the dash. But I'm in no rush at all to make it look perfect. I'm stuck with the car for a few years now, so I may as well take my time with it, ya know?

I am agreeing with @meeni on this man. Since you are in no rush you can use that to your advantage and get the parts cheaper. If you can't find anyone closer for anyone to help with coding and such I can help.. Being in no rush is your advantage.
