335i brake upgrade on N53 e92
So now that my car is pushing more power getting very bad warped I thought it was time for a bit of an upgrade.
I did look at getting a BBK but seeing as I only track once or twice a year I couldn't really warrant the cost so I decided to go for some high performance 335i brakes. I have only done the fronts for now but I will get round to the rear soon. Parts list: 335i Front callipers Black Diamond 12 groove discs Black Diamond predator pads stoptec stainless brake lines 5.1 Brake fluid Old 325i brakes: New disc and calliper: Stainless brake line: |

Those 325 brakes look like the ABS has been heavily engaged leaving deposits and overheated areas on the disc. Hard to tell for sure but it looks that way.
Have you considered replacing the rubber guide rod bushings with solid brass bushings? Makes for a huge improvement in brake performance and pedal feel. And it's cheap as mods go.

No I didn't know about that mod, it sounds interesting though. Where can I get it? |

Bimmerworld sells the bushing kit here http://store.bimmerworld.com/bimmerw...e-kit-p46.aspx You'll want to get some of this to lubricate the guide pins and the contact points of the pads on the slider http://www.permatex.com/products-2/p...bricant-detail It works very well.

One reviewer on Bimmerworld says the brass caliper guide pins require frequent maintenance which is to lubricate them and clean them. Lube them with what? Regular grease?

There was supposed to be a "better" brass caliper guide pin kit put out by ECS, but they pulled it right after announcing and it has been labeled on back order for months:

Im sure when I done this and looking at the disc diameter the 335 was bigger than the 330. But I might be wrong. One thing I found though is there's more discs and calipers available for the 335 new and old. 330 parts are hard to come by.

Tbh I never ended up getting them so I wouldn't know but if that's the case I'm glad I kept the standard sliders.

When I saw your pics the calipers looked the same as mine, quick check on Real OEM and they are same part number for disc and caliper
Are those guide pins not sealed or booted? If not it sounds more for track applications where brakes will be stripped/checked after each race meet. EDIT: Those ecs ones look good and sealed! Backorder ! |

NA 330i has smaller front and identical rear brakes. EU 330i shares the brakes front and rear. At least that is what I know.

I just had a look at RealOEM for my car UK 330i.
It looked to have 336mm rear discs Front had 330mm or 348mm (for vehicles with Usable load increase). So I am assuming I have 330mm on the front as calliper does not look like the 335 calliper. I am guess if I needed new pads & discs in the future I could throw a bit extra at it and get the 335i Callipers fitted & would get a brake upgrade for a few hundred more. Was looking a BMW Performance kits & they are 338mm front and 324 rear. So slightly bigger front with a better calliper but smaller on the back. |

I think you installed your rotors incorrectly.
Typically, slotted rotors have the slots facing toward the front. This way the slots cut into the pad material. At least that's how Stop Tech slotted rotors are. |

The reason the slots generally run counter to the vanes is to prevent cracking in the unsupported areas. That's why a lot of the newer race rotors are not using the full radial grooves but smaller hooked grooves at different radius points on the rotor face. - take care - Dave

I'm afraid that you think wrong! Slots will face the front only on directional slotted rotors. Those from the above photos are not. They can be mounted on either side, they are not left and right, so on one side the slots will face forward and on the other the opposite, towards the back.
