I find it interesting that VW just gobbles up other manufactures and Toyota collaborates with them. I hope BMW negotiates a better contract than Subaru. I would hate to see what the premium would be on the BMW version if only 1 in 10 are BMWs.

I'll wait until there are R8's with 200K miles on the dash to make that a fair comparison. But in your defense, the R8 is an amazing supercar.

Don't be such a fanboy, I find myself doing the same sometimes until i slap myself back to reality. This is beneficial to both companies as the time/monies/resources have already been spent in their respective areas. Mercedes and Nissan/Renault are working on projects together as well, I suppose you feel that dilutes the Daimler brand as well.

Not knocking your opinion at all, you're entitled to it. Just giving you my .02 to have you take a look at it from a different perspective.

BMW going to Toyota to make a proper light weight sports car... Does this mean BMW we knew is official dead?

My knee jerk reaction is that it is pretty brutal that BMW needs Toyota help to build a sports car but once I get over that initial reaction I remember how the Cayenne and Panamera pay the bills at Porsche to enable niche cars like the GT3 RS

If more FWD hybrids is what BMW needs to do to bring a lightweight V8 Z4M to the market, that's ok with me...

+1000 Trillion, but that would be too obvious of a choice for Toyota

This bit is hilarious

"Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, himself an avid sports car enthusiast"

Really!??!? Was he sleeping since 1998???

It is only since 2009 he is the head of the company. The GT86 is his first product so to say. Well, the LFA before.

Yes they have to do that. BMW also said they would first bring M SUVs before bringing an M CSL. Actually now they could, they have the X5 M, X6 M and the X4 M is coming. Not certain we'll see an M2 CSL.
