Did anyone else notice that it has a 5-series-MSport-esque rear bumper?

South is right. Watch the start up. It is a manual transmission and not automatic. You can clearly the clunking manual gear engaging and clutch release as the car rolls backwards and forward between 0:43 and 0:47. It is definitely 100% a 6 speed manual. There is zero doubt.

Hope you are right, because I'm going to if it winds up being an "iS" version.....Of course, makes more sense to build an "iS" version but to slap an ///M badge on it so you can charge more money. Not that BMW would ever think of throwing the ///M division under the bus to make a few extra bucks, I mean all ///Ms have always been simple retrofits of cars with parts from previous cars, oh, wait a second..........

.....but alas, the ///M division used to say "nein" to FI and looked down upon other manufacturer's for using the same engine for more than one car and now they're all going to be FI and the "one engine fits all" philosophy is the new "standard" for ///M.

Regardless of the badge, car looks promising.

Cheers,

Just another part from the extra parts bin...."Hey Hanz, look at what I found....neat. Bet we could slap this on the back of her; hell of a lot cheaper then designing one from scratch....."

Well said. Funny how everyone is doing high-fives and congratulating each other on the "amazing" 1M engine note being a typical M engine.

Hate to burst the bubble, the amazing typical sound in the video of a very fast revving high performance engine is NOT the 1M, but actually an overlayed S65 sound from an E9X M3 or M3 GTS chasing behind the 1M that cannot be seen in the video. If you notice closely, the 1M sounds as boring as .... just any other joe blow x35.

Just because there is a clunk and the car rolled backwards does not mean it is a manual transmission. It may indicate it is a manual transmission, however DCT can very well make the same "clunk" noise and roll backwards; probablly not in the production car but in preproduction and cars that had their DCT gizmos worked on, it does the same thing.

Engine note on the driveby at 1:15 sounds just like an N54

Perhaps they're doing chassis testing for now?

Nice bit of throttle blipping on one of the corners there at 1:08.

I'm sure our autos supposedly blips on the down change but ive never been satisfied with the sound. Not as satisfying as say an M3 DCT blipping down the gears. When you change down on a 135 auto it just sounds, well like a normal auto and as if you're driving in too low a gear.

As mentioned above, the sound of the rev matches is not even if the 1M. There are two separate engine sounds superimposed in the first lap clip. It sounds nothing like a N54 or any 6 cylinder for the fact. It is actually sound of an actual V8 S65 engine in the back drop testing that does not appear in the video (E9X M3 or a GTS).

In the second lap clip, there is no S65 M3 chasing so you clearly hear the whooshing typical x35 bland and boring sounds is that of the 1M that you hear from 1:15 onwards.

I don't mean to argue, and your reason is rational, however the idea still stands that DCT CAN do the the same thing.

Interesting...

For those that think that it nees quad exhaust pipes and wing vents to make it an M...

... you do realise that would mean that the E26 M1, E12 M535, E28 M5, E24 M635CSi, E30 M3, E36 M3, and E34 M5 weren't actually M cars... but the X5M and X6M are?

Anyway, looks great, I can't wait for the press release, to finally answer all these questions!
