MPG = 29.4?

The 135 coup highway MPG is listed at 28. I figured more HP and Torque, wider tires, fancier body work (less smooth), and a wider car would all add up to worse highway MPG.

Turns out it's pretty widely reported (but not official that I could find) that the 1m highway is 29.4 MPG. Can anyone confirm this number? I googled for "1m 29.4 mpg", 2nd hit was 1addicts.

I guess the fancy "air curtains" have a rather noticeable effect. Kudos to BMW.

Maybe we need a new metric that combines highway MPG and Nordschleife lap time. My best guess is that none of the cars anywhere near the 1m have better MPG. Gotta work it out so 60 mpg car that takes 15 minutes doesn't win though.

Another pleasant surprise that during the overboost you get 369 lb-ft starting at 1500 RPM. The M3 peaks at 295 lb-ft. Seems like combining less weight (400 lbs) and more torque (369) should make the 1m less sensitive to RPM.

That propberbly British gallons, which are bigger than us gallons so the number gets artificially inflated.

I would be very surprised if the 1M returned more than 20/26mpg US.

i'd guess it will be rated at 18/25...isn't the least efficient which does get dinged with a guzzler tax.

From the BMW official specs:

urban (l/100km) 13.6
extra-urban (l/100km) 7.3
Total (l/100km) 9.6

.136 liter/km = 17.3 miles per US gallon (20.8 miles per Imperial Gal)
.073 liter/km = 32.2 miles per US gallon (38.9 miles per Imperial Gal)
.096 liter/km = 24.5 miles per US gallon (29.4 miles per Imperial Gal)

Highway mileage seems a little unrealistic to me. Unless the side air curtains REALLY are just that good.

Those numbers would be pretty sweet, though. Is the sixth gear ultra tall?

This is what I got from one of the many online gear/speed calculators, based on a 0.846 6th gear, 3.15:1 final, and 265/35/19s in the rear:

6th gear:
8000 RPM 234.88 MPH
7500 RPM 220.20 MPH
7000 RPM 205.52 MPH
6500 RPM 190.84 MPH
6000 RPM 176.16 MPH
5500 RPM 161.48 MPH
5000 RPM 146.80 MPH
4500 RPM 132.12 MPH
4000 RPM 117.44 MPH
3500 RPM 102.76 MPH
3000 RPM 88.08 MPH
2500 RPM 73.40 MPH
2000 RPM 58.72 MPH
1500 RPM 44.04 MPH
1000 RPM 29.36 MPH

yeah... and you wouldn't want to cruise around at 1000rpm either. It's just what I got from the calculator... Like i said.

Think those are the European numbers. Not sure how the euro testing differs, but it is always much higher than the US EPA numbers.

Those numbers look similar to those in a sales brochure for the 135i

Personally don't know of any 135i owners achieving under 10ltrs/100km with varied driving conditions...more like anywhere from 13-16ltrs/100km.

Are aerodynamic improvements on the 1M going to lower it that much, considering the 1M will have a higher fuel burn tune than a 135i ??

I think one could probably achieve those numbers without prodding the loud pedal too much...
