What wheels can I use?
My car (E90 320d 55 plate) currently has boring wheels which I have the winter tyres on. They are all the same size (205/55/R16)
Im planning on keeping the current winter tyres on the existing boring wheels and when the winter is over get some nicer (and bigger) wheels... Can anyone tell me what size I can have (I was thinking 18"?) and also can I have a staggered set up or should I just stick to the same size all round? When it comes to wheels, Im totally lost as to what sizes I can have and what they even mean!! Some one please help

If you want to stick OEM, you can go right up to a 19" wheel with 225/35 / 255/30 tyres. Go here: http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ - pick '3er E90 ff.' in the Baureihe dropdown to see all the OEM styles BMW offered for the E90.
You'll get a lot of recommendations for the 19" 230 style - they're a lovely wheel and suit the SE perfectly.

yeah want to stick to OEM deffo. that way its not counted as a "mod" for insurance is it? Also looks better I think.
19"...hmm never thought i could go that big!. Wouldnt tyres be very costly for them? Although not much more then 18" i guess Ive just seen that the current wheels I have are Styling 156. Do you know what sizes I can select in the two drop down lists under the 3er E90 ff?

staggered way to go!...
I've always been sceptical about aftermarket wheels but then again oem BMW wheels are no better (if not worse).... BBS wheels maybe? Whatever you do, stay away from cheap ebay made in wherever replicas...... |

It's better to stick with the list. The problem isn't really the size, it's the offset...

I agree, any wheels larger than those fitted from new will certainly need to be declared.

I was under the impression that replicas are always a no go because they affect the ride due to weight issues etc?

for example would you say to stay away from something like this because they are replicas and not oem?

Not necessarily - you just have to do your research on the supplier and quality.
My CSL are not oem, they are made in Italy I believe, and are by Alufelgen company.

Since buying some Replica MV3s for my winter wheels, I now wouldn't hesitate to by them again from a reputable supplier. The fit and finish is spot on, lighter if anything, and the paint has lasted 2 winters without a blemish.
I'll be going to BM Autosport this year for a set of new 19" wheels, reps for sure. hmmm... CSLs or BBS LMs? decisions decisions..... |

I bought my MV3 reps from wheelworx.net, they were £300 for 4 off 8Jx18 in late 2009.
Looking at their site now, it seems a bit poor, they don't do any BMW reps at all any more. Last edited by doughboy; 02-02-2012 at 09:53 AM.. |

For something that is likely to influence handling (i.e. alloy wheels, brakes or suspension) I would declare them in my opinion - OEM upgrade or not. I would have thought in the event of an incident they would investigate these three things first (hence easier to spot any discrepancies between factory fit and non-factory fit/aftermarket goodies).
Regarding Replica's not all are bad. BMAutosport is known to supply good quality replica wheels. Unfortunetely, there are replica's out there that are made of poor quality alloy (i.e. buckles/cracks easily) and some ain't even perfectly round. I doubt its possible to spot by eye so best bet is to buy from a reputable seller/manufacterer. |

So BMautosport are a reputable seller and you could trust all alloys they sell?
Who here has used them?
