It's great that some LOVE their BMW. I have owned around 20 vehicles of all sorts of make. Not one sat in the shop for 6 weeks like the 335 did.
Aren't the bugs supposed to be less with the amount of R&D and such that goes into current automobiles? My old 320i and 528e never went to the shop for "bugs". I drove the crap out of those cars. They were fairly basic though.
Fancy is not necessarily a good thing. For 46K I guess the lemon peel and chips in the front end from big bugs, not to mention mechanical, is just part of the experience.

It is when the factory mucks up the paint with an orange peel effect and this pisses on the car.

I just had my front bumper repainted under warranty last week. Maybe it was this 'orange peel" I had. The paint on the bumper was peeling in a couple spots. My bumper was pretty beat-up from rocks and shit anyway so it was a blessing in disquise.

If you bought a house for $500K would you consider it a non-issue if you have to call the plumber or electrician several times a year?
So, basically what your saying is that you want BMW to start manufacturing their own bulbs? Because, I'm sure you realize they don't right now. It's just a lightbulb... can you not change it yourself? I think they cost $1 and are easily accessed through the trunk in my e46. I imagine the e9X would share this trend of easy access.

Drive slower... ? Or put on a clear bra.

Performance and reliability have always been inversely proportionate.

For me it's like my smokin hot wife that can be a bit bitchy at times, you forgive the little things because the whole package can't be beat. My 335 has had its gremlins too but I love it anyway. No other car for me ( at least that I could afford) puts a smile on my face like this one...

No, I am saying that they could be perhaps more selective about the bulbs or the electrical system behind it. If less expensive cars can have bulbs last 2 or 3 years, surely BMW can source a bulb that lasts one.

And why should I have to repair it myself when I paid for free maintenance? I do not think your e46 shares the same brake lighting system as the e92. Get one and find out.

I entirely plan on it. I'm in the process of getting a e92 M3.

Exactly! BMW's quality is up, and led the polls in all areas. Overall, however, the industry has taken a slight downturn.

I also disagre with the member who said that people who buy 50k cars don't want to admit when they have problems. It's actually quite the contrary. BMW drivers (..and luxury brand owners in general) nit-pick over everything, so they are quick to voice their dissatisfaction (..however minute it might be).

But I'd say based on these forums we're pretty close to 99% perfect. That's more than fine in my book.

At the end of the day, 99% or 100%, the fact that BMW balances any engineering issues with a killer warranty puts these issues to rest for me. I love the brand, and love the quality.
+1

I've owned other german cars before (a 3er, a 5er and a boxster S) and the quality on my 335i is pretty good compared to those - knock wood

The N54 specifically hasn't exactly been flawless, but hopefully they stick with the platform and hammer the bugs out.

How does this relate with the latest IQS?

Looks like Infiniti and MB went up and BMW went down (below average) ?!?

^^ The problem with the JD Power thing is that the "problems per 100 vehicles" includes complaints like "I can't figure out the radio." That's what JD Power calls "initial quality" -- it's not a measure of reliability. That seems lame to me. I mean really, what do you think offers higher reliability and quality, the average Mercury, Audi, Benz, Jag, Pontiac, Buick? Or the average Acura? The Acura rates lower than those others in that worthless JD Power survey.

Bottom line, the more categories of surveys JD Power & Assocs have, the more manufacturers can say they are ranked highly in some irrelevant JD Power survey, the more money JD Power makes.
